He Didn’t Kidnap Me. Not Exactly novel Chapter 89

Chapter 89

“Relax,” I said to myself. “It’s just figures. It can’t hurt you.”

That felt like a lie.

I tapped my pen against the page and leaned back slightly.

“You’ve survived worse,” I added and paused.

“So you can survive decimals.”

Motivational… or delusional. Either way, I leaned forward again and started reading. And somewhere between trying to understand algebra and fighting off sleep, time passed.

A lot of it.

By the time my alarm sounded, my brain felt like it had been gently shaken and then abandoned.

Two hours.

Gone.

Did I understand anything?

Debatable.

Was I still alive and functional?

Yes.

Success.

I packed my things slowly, stretching my arms as I stood.

Alright.

Back to reality. Back to noise and back to the Nathan buzz

I braced myself before stepping out of the library, already preparing for the usual.

The cheers..

The exaggerated storytelling from everyone..

The “you should’ve seen him” speeches..

But then, it wasn’t as loud as I expected.

People were talking as I passed by. Groups were gathered. But the energy felt… different.

I couldn’t quite place it.

And honestly?

I didn’t want to.

I adjusted my bag and headed toward the cafeteria. But then it wasn’t also safe there because I’d be meeting up with Aria of whom I was sure would explain everything anyway. Especially since she was now crushing on him.

I got to the cafeteria before Aria did.

I ordered fries, sat down, and started eating slowly, enjoying the rare moment of quiet.

Peace.

It lasted for a moment and was gone the second Aria burst in.

“Hey, girl!”

There it was.

Energy and also incoming information I didn’t need.

I straightened slightly, already preparing myself.

“You won’t believe how crazy today was,” she said, dropping into the seat across from me. That line was becoming one of her favorites.

“Were you at the field during training?”

I shook my head. “No.”

Her eyes lit up. “Perfect. Because I’m about to give you the full gist.”

Of course you are.

I nodded, chewing slowly.

“Let me guess,” I said dryly. “Nathan dominated. Everyone screamed. History repeated itself.”
