Her face was completely ashen. Seeing Josie burning up with a fever only added to her overwhelming irritation.
"Why would you be so brutal? Explain yourself right now."
Nelson didn't even bother looking up. He quietly grabbed another tissue and wiped the sweat from Josie's forehead.
Yvonne was so furious her vision blurred. She pointed a trembling finger at him but couldn't choke out a single word.
Nelson stood up and headed straight for the door.
Yvonne finally snapped. "Stop right there!"
She had never truly disciplined her son, always assuming he had the intelligence to know where the line was drawn.
Exhausted, she collapsed into a nearby chair, massaging her temples with one hand. "How am I supposed to explain this to Mrs. Xavier? She's crying her eyes out. You deliberately did this just to make my life a living hell, didn't you?"
She rubbed her throbbing head, visibly at her breaking point. "Did you at least find out who took Josie?"
"No. But she's safe, and that's all that matters. I'll track them down eventually."
Yvonne pressed her lips into a thin line. The damage was done; she had no choice but to completely cut ties with Mrs. Xavier.
With a hardened heart, she pulled out her phone and permanently blocked the woman's number.
The simple action left her feeling entirely drained. "You act without ever considering the consequences, Nelson. It's going to backfire on you one day. But you are my son, and I will always stand by you. The Xavier family is beneath us, so Corbin is irrelevant. But if you keep acting like a reckless maniac, what happens when you cross someone the Saint family actually can't afford to offend?"
The Saint family wielded immense power, but power was fickle. No one could guarantee they would remain untouchable forever.
Standing in the doorway, Nelson's tone was chillingly calm. "I understand."
He clearly had no intention of continuing the conversation and simply walked away.
"Nelson!"
