Hearing Nelson's name made Corbin even more agitated.
But his fury was completely useless.
Caleb stood nearby, guessing that Corbin had finally realized he had been used.
Caleb didn't offer any words of comfort. Since he was perfectly healthy and whole, anything he said would likely be taken as a provocation.
He paid off the medical bills and quietly exited the room.
His mother, Mrs. Helena Xavier, was waiting at the end of the corridor. The moment she saw him, she rushed over and grabbed his hand anxiously. "Is he really ruined? Can he ever walk again?"
"Yes, he's in a vegetative state."
Helena's face twisted in horror. A perfectly healthy man had been reduced to a vegetable overnight, and the worst part was that the Xavier family couldn't even give them a taste of their own medicine. Frowning with deep worry, she asked, "Was it really because of Juniper?"
Caleb glanced around to ensure no one was listening before pulling Helena into a secluded corner. "Mom, if anyone ever asks you to go against Juniper in the future, you must refuse at all costs. Otherwise, what happened to Corbin today will happen to us tomorrow."
Helena turned completely pale. The power struggle within the Xavier family had reached a boiling point. That illegitimate son, Gideon Xavier, was on the verge of seizing total control, ready to swallow up multiple auction houses. But out of nowhere, Caleb had secured Nelson's backing and managed to protect at least one of their auction houses. As long as the two of them kept their heads down, they would be guaranteed a life of comfort and wealth.
