Gillian nearly collapsed.
Chloe grabbed her arm to steady her. "Are you okay? We should push your next surgery back. You can't operate in this state."
"I'm fine." Gillian took a deep breath, forcing herself to stay grounded. "I'll arrange for someone else to take the next one."
Yesterday, Miles had told her to brace herself, but she never imagined the person taking over would be Hailey. She was using her father's name as a stepping stone, and York was helping her do it—helping her push Gillian into an endless abyss.
-
Once Hailey's statement went live, the old rumors about her father began circulating through the hospital once more.
The gossip was unbearable to listen to. Very few people in the hospital knew the man was actually Gillian's father.
"I heard Mr. Jordan used his professional position to assault a schizophrenic patient. When she tried to sue, he issued a medical statement claiming a psychiatric patient's words had no credibility and that it was all severe delusions. It was all based on his word alone. The patient was almost recovered, but he drove her completely insane..."
"What kind of nonsense are you gossiping about during work hours?" Gillian's expression was furious.
"Gillian, it's not exactly nonsense. It's what the news reported. Mr. Jordan is still in prison to this day. If he didn't do it, why would he be locked up?"
Hailey bit her lip. "Those innocent patients were so pitiful. Scum like that deserves to rot in a cell for the rest of his life."
She kept rambling, clearly not satisfied yet. "Such a despicable person completely tarnishes medical ethics. I can't believe he even went after a pregnant..."
Smack!
Trembling, Gillian delivered a vicious slap right across Hailey's face.
Her father and her family were her absolute bottom line.
The force of the slap was intense, snapping Hailey's head to the side.
Hailey cupped her stinging cheek in disbelief, tears instantly welling up in her eyes as half her face went numb. "Gillian, why did you hit me..."
"You both have the same last name. Could it be that you..."
"We what?" Gillian glared at her coldly. "Even at his lowest, Mr. Jordan is infinitely better than someone who sleeps her way to the top. Do you even know that your precious boyfriend is a married..." man!
"Enough!"
York stood at the doorway, his face like thunder, cutting her off.
