I Loved You in the Dark Until Someone Loved Me in the Light novel Chapter 27

Hearing that, Gillian's panic hit its absolute peak.

She jumped up, completely losing her mind, desperate to go find her mother. But the moment she stood, the world tilted, and she nearly collapsed.

Miles caught her. She was incredibly thin, feeling practically weightless in his arms. She was simply far too frail.

He furrowed his brow, staring deeply into her stubborn eyes.

She gasped, "I'm fine. Let's go find my mom."

She was trembling, barely able to stand on her own two feet, yet she was forcing herself to go search for her mother.

Watching her frail silhouette, Miles's Adam's apple bobbed. "Gillian, what kind of life have you been living these past few years?"

She was the Director of Obstetrics at Eastwood Memorial. At her young age, reaching such a prestigious position was a massive achievement, and her salary was substantial. She should have been living a glamorous, comfortable life. What on earth had reduced her to this state?

Gillian's spine stiffened.

What kind of life...

She didn't dare think back on all the times she had sacrificed her own pride for his cold rejection. Just the thought of it sent a suffocating ache through her chest.

"You need to rest," Miles insisted. "I'll go check the security cameras. She couldn't have gone far. I will find her, so just wait for my text. I promise I'll bring her back safely. You are in no condition to be running around."

"No—" Gillian vehemently refused, forcing herself to stay upright. "I have to find her."

Her father was in prison, and her brother was still missing without a trace. Her mother was the only person left she could talk to, the only family she had left to live with. Right now, her mother was her only emotional anchor.

She absolutely could not let anything happen to her.
