I Loved You in the Dark Until Someone Loved Me in the Light novel Chapter 26

She stood up and walked over to the window to answer the phone.

"Gillian, you need to get to the hospital immediately. I don't know where your mom heard those rumors about your dad, but she's completely unstable. She's screaming about going out to hunt those people down."

Gillian's face paled. "I'll be right there!"

Hanging up, she spun around and bolted for the door.

"Stop right there," York commanded, his voice freezing cold.

Panicking, Gillian ignored him and kept rushing out.

The man's expression instantly turned murderous. He closed the distance in three long strides and grabbed her wrist. "In such a rush to leave just because he called? Demanding a divorce left and right—are you just eager to throw yourself into his arms?"

"Is that what you think of me?" Gillian took a deep breath, her heart turning to ice.

But it was an emergency, and she didn't have time to fight with him.

"York, I have to go to the hospital to check on my mom. She's—" She was losing her mind because of Hailey's public statement and those vicious rumors.

"Gillian! That excuse is pathetic." York cut her off, his eyes flashing with rage. "Your mother has a team of nurses taking care of her, and her condition is stable. What the hell do you need to see her for in the middle of the night?"

"We aren't even divorced yet, and you're already rushing to introduce him to your parents?"

"Are you that desperate? Did I not satisfy you enough? He makes one call, and you come running!"

He backed her into the wall, trapping her in the corner, and smashed his lips against hers in a brutal, chaotic kiss fueled purely by his fury.

Gillian felt a suffocating wave of despair.

York was throwing a tantrum over this, yet when he abandoned her over a single phone call from Hailey, had he ever spared a thought for how she felt?

At that moment, the overwhelming injustice, the heartbreak, and her frantic anxiety for her mother tangled into an agonizing mess.

Unable to push him away with her limited strength, she bit down viciously on York's lip.

He hissed in pain and pulled back.

Her eyes brimmed with tears, her entire body shaking. She stared at him with a gaze that bordered on pure hatred. "York, not everyone is as filthy as you!"
