I Loved You in the Dark Until Someone Loved Me in the Light novel Chapter 6

"Fine. Whatever."

York agreed readily and walked out.

The door slammed shut with a bang, making the entire house seem to shudder.

The moment he left, Gillian collapsed onto the floor, her soul seemingly sucked out of her.

Sitting there, she couldn't snap out of it for a long time. Her mind played like a carousel, flashing through the past five years of her tirelessly trying to please York. She had firmly believed that even if York was a block of ice, there would come a day when she'd melt him.

It wasn't until today, seeing how gently and deeply he loved another woman, that Gillian realized how pathetic she had been.

If there's no love, there's no love. Romance isn't something that just magically grows over time.

-

The latter half of the night.

Gillian didn't sleep well, but after eating a little and resting, she felt much better than when she first got home.

She was a light sleeper, and the first ring of her phone startled her awake.

The call was from Serenity Care Center.

"Ms. Jordan, we've detected signs of your mother waking up tonight. We need to administer an experimental drug. What do you think..."

Gillian didn't even have to think. "Do it! As long as it wakes my mother up, I don't care how much it costs."

But when she went to pay, she discovered that the supplementary credit card York had given her was frozen. At that moment, her heart plunged into ice.

It had only been a few hours since she asked for a divorce, and he was ruthless enough to freeze it so quickly.

Married for five years, York would provide the money for her mother's care at the center, while her own salary was almost entirely spent on household items to maintain their little home.

She had naively thought that buying things for him with her own money would show her sincerity and devotion, but now... it had only left her in a bind.

The balance in her bank account was pitifully low.

Being blindly in love was a terrible mistake.

She took a deep breath and called Chloe Langdon to borrow some money. Chloe was her closest friend at the hospital.

Chloe transferred the money immediately without asking any questions. Gillian was proud to her bones and never begged anyone at the hospital, so calling in the middle of the night to borrow money meant she was in serious trouble.
