Chapter 26
Aurora’s POV
We got back from the late–night snack run close to eleven. The apartment was dark except for the kitchen light spilling into the living room.
Silas went straight to the kitchen to heat milk. I sat on the couch and watched him through the doorway–the way he moved around our kitchen like he’d been doing it his whole life.
He came back with two mugs and sat down next to me. The heat from the ceramic seeped into my palms.
I took a sip. Then I set the mug down on the coffee table and looked at him. “Jessica told me something today.” His eyes shifted to mine.
“She said the racetrack is her father’s property. She’s already applied to work there.” I kept my voice level. “And she plans to personally handle your training resource coordination.”
Silas’s hand froze around his mug. His brows drew together.
“I had no idea,” he said immediately.
“I know,” I said. “I’m not blaming you.
He set the mug down. Turned to face me fully. Then he reached out, took my hand, and placed it on his knee, his fingers wrapping over mine.
“I’m going to the coach tomorrow,” he said, voice dropping. “I’m changing coordinators. Anyone but her.”

I looked at him. Thought about it. “Don’t, not yet.”
He blinked Actually looked surprised.

“If I make you switch right now,” I continued, “she’ll say I’m scared. She’ll use it as proof that I don’t trust you, that I’m trying to isolate you from your training team.” I met his eyes. “Keep training normally. But promise me two things.”
He was listening now, fully.
“First, any time she tries to touch you, you move away. Immediately. No polite hesitation.” He nodded.
“Second–anything she gives you, you don’t take. Not drinks, not food, not equipment. Nothing.
His tiger ears popped out. He stared at me for a long second, then pulled me against his chest, his chin resting on top of my head.
“Rule one,” he said into my hair. “She comes within half a meter, I turn and walk away.”
“Rule two–she hands me something, I walk around her like she’s a traffic cone.”
I pressed my face into his shirt and laughed. “That’s enough.”
I left for work the next morning after a quick shower and a change of clothes.
The office was on the fourteenth floor of a mid–tier commercial building in the city center–a PR firm. I did client execution, which meant I was the person who translated what clients said they wanted into what they actually needed, then made it happen without anyone noticing how

work it took.
sat down at my desk, logged in, and had been typing for maybe three minutes before the chair next to me scraped back.
“Wait, Aurora.” Mia. She was staring at my hand.
The ring. The pale blue stone caught the fluorescent light and threw it right onto her face.
She gasped. Loudly. Three other heads swiveled over the partition.. Within ten seconds I had a small crowd.
“Wow, Aurora. When did you make bond?”
“Who is it, Aurora?”
“Is it Connor? Finally?”
Their questions came one after another.
I shook my head. “Bound to a new beastman.”
Silence. Then the noise level went up. “You replaced Connor?”
“When did this happen? How did nobody know?”
I kept it short. “We weren’t compatible. So I switched.”
The curiosity was instant and aggressive. Someone actually said “Show us a picture.” Another person leaned in with their phone camera ready like we were doing a press conference.
I hadn’t even opened my mouth to answer when Emily’s voice came from two desks over.

“You guys actually believe that?”
She was leaning against the partition with a coffee in her hand, one hip cocked, smiling that particular smile she reserved for moments when she thought she had the upper hand.
Emily and I had a history. We’d clashed on two shared accounts, and Id won both. She hadn’t forgotten.
She looked at me, then at the ring, then back at me. “Please. Someone like her? What kind of quality beastman would she match with?” Her laugh was light and cutting. “More likely Connor dumped her and she’s too embarrassed to admit it. So she just… made one up.”
The office went quiet for a beat.
A couple of people shifted uncomfortably. Someone muttered, “I mean… she never mentioned it beforehand.”
Emily’s smile widened:
I stayed in my chair, flipping through a file on my desk, my expression completely blank. I didn’t look up. I didn’t defend myself.
Mia, to her credit, was already frowning. “Are you serious? She has to report her binding to you in advance? What is this, a public service announcement?”
Emily rolled her eyes and opened her mouth, and the office door swung
open.
“Guys. Guys, you need to see this.”
It was Leo from accounts, phone held up like a torch, practically running into the room.

‘Some beastman drifting video just went viral. Like, insanely handsor. Look at this.”
The gravitational pull of a viral video in an office setting is absolute. Within seconds the entire cluster had migrated to Leo’s desk, crowding around his screen.
The video was shaky, clearly shot by a spectator. A dark–colored racing car hit a corner at speed–too much speed–and instead of losing it, the driver tucked the car inches from the inside barrier, tires screaming, body leaning into the apex with surgical precision. The car slid through the corner in a clean arc and shot out onto the straight like nothing had happened.
Then the camera cut to the driver pulling off his helmet.
