Chapter 27
Aurora’s POV
I set my pen down, leaned back in my chair, and said, evenly. “Yeah. That’s him.”
The office went quiet for two full seconds. Then Mia slammed her hand on the desk so hard my coffee cup jumped.
“I told you all to stop guessing! She bound an S–class and you were all sitting here being petty! Look at him – look at that face! S–class, obviously!”
People swarmed Questions came from every direction.
“Wait, really S–class?”
“Whose racing track is that on the trending list?”
“How did you even meet him?”
Emily was standing where she’d been, frozen, her coffee cup gripped so tight her knuckles were white. Her face had gone through about four colors in thirty seconds.
I met her eyes.
“Emily,” I said, voice flat. “Didn’t you say I made him up?”
Her mouth opened. Closed. After a long beat she turned around, walked back to her desk, and set her coffee cup down with a thud that echoed
across the room.

didn’t answer. But the corner of my mouth was fighting a losing battle against a smile.
I picked up my phone and opened the trending list.
Racing Track S–Class Beastman sat right in the middle of the board. I clicked through. The video had already racked up millions of views.
The comments were what you’d expect.
“Whose beastman is this??”
“Need owner’s contact info ASAP”
“S–class really hits different”
I scrolled twice, flipped the phone face–down on the desk, and didn’t look again.
At lunch, Mia dragged me to the restaurant downstairs.
She interrogated me the entire walk over. I kept it short. Matching Center. New match. Bound recently. That’s it.
“What about Connor?” she asked.
“Public notice period ends tomorrow night. After that, he gets transferred to the colosseum.”
Mia blinked. Opened her mouth. Closed it. Finally. “Well. He had that coming.
After that, we found a table, sat down, and were halfway through ordering when Mia leaned across, lowered her voice, and said.

“Emily was on the phone in the break room earlier. I walked past and
heard her say something about ‘the racing track.“” She paused. “Watch
ur back with her.”
I picked up my chopsticks. “Noted.”
Just then, my phone buzzed.
