Chapter 4
Aurora’s POV
I could tell Connor was not even mad at me. He just wanted to hurt my feelings and made me become more and more insecure. The more I feared him leaving, the deeper his hold on me became.
But it wouldn’t work any longer. This time, I was really going to let him go.
A bitter laugh bubbled out of me, hidden tears stinging deep inside my chest. I gave them both with an icy stare and said, “Get out of my room. Both of you.”
Connor narrowed his eyes at me. “Phoebe is fighting her depression. The least you can do is be more considerate of her condition. And you call yourself her elder sister?”
“Out. I’m not arguing with you again,” I said coldly.
But Connor stood right where he was.
“I know what this is about, Aurora,” he let out a mocking cold chuckle. “You’re throwing tantrum to drag more of my attention onto yourself, aren’t you? Fine, then how about this? Promise you’ll never hurt Phoebe’s feelings again, and I’ll go to the mating center with you the moment you recover.”
Phoebe shot him a hurt, pleading look the second the words left his mouth, yet Connor didn’t even look at her way.
His full gaze locked intently on my face. He was waiting for my response.
“No need,” I said flatly. “I already told you. You’re free to go with Phoebe.”
“What did you say?” His brows slammed together, and his doggy ears pricked upright.
I huffed a scoff. “Have you forgotten who your owner is, Connor? I hold all the say over whether we form a bond or not.”
Confusion flickered across his features. Because normally, I was the one begging him to go to the mating center with me.
He stepped forward and grabbed my arm, his voice tense. “What do you mean? We are definitely forming a bond together…right? It’s—It’s just a matter of time.”
Phoebe’s face lit up briefly behind him. Then she hurried forward and pulled his hand off me.
“Relax, Connor, can’t you see what she’s trying to do?” she pouted. “Aurora’s playing hard to get again. Everyone knows she is hopelessly depended on her werebeast. Cave into her now and you lose.”
Connor’s brows smoothed over. “You’re right. It’s settled then, Aurora. I’ll sign the bonding papers once you get better.”
With that, he turned and walked out of the room with Phoebe. The door clicked shut behind them.
I stared at the closed door and took in a deep breathe, trying to calm down.
My phone rang just a second later. It’s another call from the Werebeast Matching Center.
“Good news, Miss Collins, we found you a new matched werebeast,” the staff said. “I’ve just sent this werebeast’s profile to your phone. Please confirm it ASAP.”
I checked my inbox. And a male weretiger’s photo came into view. Dark eyes, dark hairs, sharp and defined features.
The profile read. Name. Silas Blackwood. An S-Rank tiger werebeast. Compatibility with Aurora Collins. 100%.
My eyes widened in shock. Silas ranked a full tier higher than Connor. That’s very rare.
“Did you see your compatibility rate with Silas?” the staff gasped over the line. “Honestly, in all my years working here, I’ve never met such a high compatibility like this. And it’s with a S-Rank werebeast. You’re very lucky, Miss Collins.”
I clenched the phone with a complicated feeling at heart. “Thank you.”
“Once you confirm the acceptance, you can come to the facility to collect your new werebeast in 3 working days.”
“I confirm,” I answered without hesitation.
Maybe it’s time to move on.
Ever since Phoebe stole my parents, friends and my werebeast when we turned 15, I had never dared to hope for anything truly mine.
But this time, I would never let her steal anything from me again.
…
3 days later, I was discharged from the hospital.
Connor never visited me once, but my phone flooded with dozens of texts from Phoebe. She made sure I saw every snapshot of her and Connor sightseeing across the city.
I carefully saved every single photo onto a brand-new SIM card and forwarded the evidence to the Werebeast Administration Bureau. Though our bonding ceremony was unfinished, Connor’s official paperwork had been registered under my legal ownership since I was 14.
Per federal werebeast regulations, excessive intimate contact with an outsider counted as a serious contract violation. Both of them might get punished.
With everything ready, I got a taxi going straight to the Matching Center.
A tall and handsome weretiger stood waiting for me by the entrance, with a just one travel suitcase set beside his feet. Every passing woman stole glances at him, blushing and giggling.
I took a deep breath and walked up to him. The moment he saw me, his eyes lit up.
I smiled back at him. “Hi, Silas? I’m your owner, Aurora Collins.”
