Xander finally let out an almost imperceptible breath of relief and gave a curt nod.
He couldn't even explain to himself why he had insisted on it with this woman.
If it were anyone else, he wouldn't have spared them a second glance.
He was a man who calculated every single step with mechanical precision, weighing the pros and cons of every choice before acting. He knew exactly what intervening like this implied, yet he did it anyway.
The light above the operating room flicked off at that moment.
Finnegan was wheeled out, lying on his stomach on the gurney, his entire back tightly wrapped in thick gauze.
Nora walked over to ask the doctor for an update. The doctor pulled down his mask and explained that there was no critical damage. A rib in his back was slightly injured, and because his old wounds hadn't fully healed, he would need an extended period of strict bed rest this time.
Nora nodded, thanking the doctor, and Finnegan was wheeled into a VIP suite.
He was still unconscious, his face deathly pale and his lips chapped—a jarring contrast to the aggressive, domineering Mr. Fletcher everyone was used to.
Meanwhile, Seraphina hummed cheerfully as she pulled up to the venue.
She parked by the curb, pushed the car door open, and clicked her heels confidently up the front steps. Her mind was already looping through several glorious scenarios of Nora lying in a pool of blood, while she debated which horrified expression would look the most authentic when she ran inside.
Before she even made it to the doors, she overheard two staff members whispering on the steps. "Man, you have no idea. Mr. Fletcher got crushed so badly. His whole back was covered in blood. It soaked right through his suit! It was terrifying!"
Seraphina's high heels slammed to a halt. The victorious smile on her face froze, stalling midway before it could fully fade.
She grabbed one of the staff members by the arm. "Who did you say got crushed?"
The staff member winced, rubbing his arm where her nails dug in, and stuttered out a repetition. "M-Mr. Fletcher... Mr. Fletcher got crushed."
The nurse was thoroughly spooked by her twisted, terrifying expression and quickly pulled up the information.
Before the nurse could even finish speaking, Seraphina was already bolting down the hallway toward the VIP ward.
When she reached the door to his room, she froze as if her feet had been glued to the floor.
Through the small glass window on the door, she saw Finnegan lying on his stomach, his back enveloped in thick white gauze, his face as pale as a sheet of paper.
*It was true!*
She clamped a hand over her mouth, her entire body shaking uncontrollably.
Sienna actually crushed Finnegan! The trap she had meticulously designed to destroy Nora had ended up crushing Finnegan!
