Hearing the frantic clatter of approaching footsteps, Nora turned around just in time to see Seraphina charging toward her.
The moment Seraphina's eyes locked onto Nora, it was like a lit fuse violently detonating. She surged forward, her high heels aggressively striking the floor.
The sharp, echoing clatter shattered the quiet of the hospital corridor. Before Nora could even utter a word, a vicious slap cracked hard against her cheek.
*Smack!*
The sharp sound ricocheted down the hallway. Nora's head snapped to the side from the force of the blow, an angry red mark rapidly blooming across her pale skin.
Felix, who had just stepped out of the breakroom holding a cup of water, witnessed the entire exchange. He slammed his cup down onto a nearby medical cart, bridged the distance in three strides, and thrust himself between the two women. Shielding Nora behind him, he roared in sheer fury.
"Seraphina, what the hell do you think you're doing?! Are you out of your mind?!"
Seraphina stood her ground, her eyes brimming with tears, a hysterical, twisted smirk plastered across her face. Her voice shook violently as she screamed.
"I'm out of my mind? This absolute jinx put my fiancé in a hospital bed, and you're calling me crazy?! Felix, I think you're the one who's lost his mind! What's the point of protecting her? Can you turn back time? Can you magically pull my fiancé out of that hospital bed?!"
Felix didn't back down an inch, his expression dangerously cold. "Nora didn't do this! Use your brain. Nobody could have predicted a massive chandelier falling out of nowhere. If you're pissed off, direct it at me, but don't you dare lay a hand on her again!"
Seraphina let out a cold, mocking laugh. She aggressively swiped at the tears spilling from her eyes, but the harder she rubbed, the faster they fell. Finally, she abandoned the effort, fixing Nora with a bloodshot, venomous glare.
"You want me to use my brain? You both know exactly why my fiancé is in this hospital! Nora, you owe me an explanation, and you owe me a damn apology! You are not taking one step out of here until you beg for forgiveness."
Xander's eyes were terrifyingly sharp, as though he already held all the evidence in his hands and was simply watching her make a fool of herself.
She forcefully shoved her rising terror down, tilting her chin up aggressively. Her voice spiked, sharp and defensive to mask her guilt.
"I am the family of the victim! What right do you have to speak to me like that? My fiancé is lying unconscious in that room, and all of you are standing here protecting the one responsible! You have absolutely no right!"
Xander's lips curled into a slow, mocking smile, a sight that sent a violent shudder straight down Seraphina's spine.
"I wouldn't speak with such absolute certainty just yet. Whether you are truly the 'victim's family' is something the police will determine. I highly doubt that massive glass chandelier fell out of nowhere on its own.
