I Was His Wife, Then His Widow, Then No One's But My Own novel Chapter 322

"I didn't say I wouldn't take you. I'm just telling you to calm down and not panic. I'm doing this for your own good."

Tears welled up in Nora's eyes. "How can I not panic? It's so easy for you to sit there and preach. Of course you're not worried—it's not happening to you."

Finnegan bristled at her tone. "I gave you a choice earlier, and you chose to get in my car and head back to the company. Xavier Vance is just feeling a little unwell. If it were a genuine emergency, Felix would have already issued a critical condition notice. The man is a medical researcher; do you honestly think he doesn't know his own body?"

Nora stared at him, stunned. She couldn't fathom how such cold, heartless words could come out of his mouth.

Taking her silence as submission, Finnegan pressed on. "You need to prioritize your own future right now. This meeting at Fletcher Group is incredibly important. You can't spend your life constantly putting everyone else first. Think about yourself for once."

Nora felt like she was losing her mind. "To hell with your stupid meeting! I just want to go to the hospital to see my professor. Let me out at the intersection, or I swear I'll jump from this car!"

Finnegan's eyes darkened as he whipped his head to look at her. "What did you just say? Nora, are you telling me our family matters less to you than some old man?"

Nora closed her eyes as a suffocating wave of exhaustion washed over her. She didn't want to speak another word to him.

But Finnegan wasn't finished. "You need to broaden your perspective. You need to see the bigger picture. Nothing fatal is going to happen to Xavier, and your being there won't change anything. You are coming back to the office with me. Once the meeting is over, I don't care where you go."

Nora's gaze turned completely frigid. Refusing to engage, she unbuckled her seatbelt and started slamming her purse against the car window.

Seraphina's eyes went wide. "Nora, are you insane? Do you have any idea what you're doing?"

Nora ignored her, continuing to bash her bag against the glass.
