I Was His Wife, Then His Widow, Then No One's But My Own novel Chapter 346

A wave of helplessness washed over the medical staff, leaving the room paralyzed in a tense deadlock.

This clinical trial had reached its most critical phase, and Annabel was their most vital test subject. If anything went wrong with her, the entire project would be forcefully shut down.

Just as everyone felt utterly stumped, Nora marched purposefully to the bedside. With glacial calm, she scanned the erratic data monitors and quickly assessed Annabel's allergic reaction and spiking temperature.

She immediately halted the current protocol. "Stop the IV drip right now! This is cellular rejection, the medication is wrong. Increasing the dosage is only going to crush her system."

The team froze for a split second before scrambling to execute Nora's exact orders.

Nora didn't stand idle. She fired off a rapid series of adjustments to the treatment plan, hovering over the girl's bedside. It wasn't until Annabel's vitals finally flatlined back into the safe zone that Nora let out a shaky breath. Cold sweat beaded on her forehead, rolling down her face in heavy drops.

Before she could even catch her breath, the rest of the team erupted in praise. "Thank God for Dr. Newman! If you hadn't been here, we wouldn't have known what to do today."

Nora's gaze, however, swept over them with an icy sternness. "You all need to drastically step up your training. If a minor complication like this leaves you completely paralyzed, what are you going to do when we hit the real hurdles down the line?"

The team instantly fell silent, hanging their heads in shame.

They knew Nora was right. A relatively small roadblock had completely derailed them. The collective competence of the team was still lacking, and they needed to adapt and evolve, fast.

After all, none of them had ever tackled a project of this magnitude before. They were painfully aware that their past experience wasn't going to cut it anymore.

They had to grow up quickly.

Still, seeing Annabel's vitals stabilize brought a collective sigh of relief to the room.

Nora finally allowed her shoulders to drop. She wiped the sweat from her brow, instructed the nurses to maintain strict monitoring, and turned to walk out of the ward.
