I Was His Wife, Then His Widow, Then No One's But My Own novel Chapter 410

After the photo was taken, the clerk handed over their two red marriage booklets. Xander reached out with both hands to accept them. The man, usually so unshakeable in the boardroom, had a slight tremble in his fingers the moment he took hold of the certificates.

He placed one gently into Nora's hands, looked her in the eyes, and seriously said, "Mrs. Harrison."

Nora opened the booklet, her eyes crinkling with joy as she looked at the photo of them sitting shoulder-to-shoulder. "Mr. Harrison."

Stepping out of The Marriage Bureau, Nora dialed Benedict Newman's number. He seemed to be busy, and it took a while for the call to connect.

"Dad."

Benedict's cold, heavy voice came through the speaker. "What is it?"

Nora took a deep breath and dropped the news. "Xander and I got married today."

There was a long silence on the other end of the line before Benedict slowly replied, "I see. Find some time to come back and visit."

"Okay," Nora replied softly. Before she could say anything else, he hung up.

A wave of disappointment washed over her. Until the truth behind her mother and oldest brother's deaths was uncovered, her father would probably never treat her warmly.

Sensing the shift in her mood, Xander tightly squeezed her hand. "I'll go with you when you visit."

Nora pressed her lips together and let out a long breath. "I'm fine."

Xander drove them back to their shared place. "Do you want to officially move in with me now? This is our home. Or I could move into your place."

Nora laughed. "If you move into my place, are you trying to be my trophy husband?"

Xander chuckled, affectionately pinching her cheek. He then led her on a tour of the villa, showing off all the preparations he had made for her.
