Amos shut Evan down so thoroughly that he couldn’t get a single word out.
He was right.
What right did Evan have to sit here questioning whether Stella had mattered enough to Felix?
She had mattered to him, hadn’t she?
And yet he was still the one who had pushed her away.
The thought that he had personally sent her away made Evan’s chest tighten until he could barely breathe.
Why?
Why had he made that choice?
At the time, he had been too worried about Yara.
Aaron was a lunatic.
But looking back now, hadn’t Evan been just as much of a bastard in Stella’s eyes?
“I still think something’s wrong.”
No matter what Amos said, Evan still suspected Stella was with Felix.
Felix had taken her away and hidden her somewhere no one could find.
Maybe Evan no longer had any right to her.
But what right did Felix have?
Back in Eirden, hadn’t Felix treated Stella badly too?
“You don’t suspect anything,” Amos said. “You just want an excuse to keep this going.”
Evan fell silent.
“As long as you don’t find Felix, you can keep telling yourself Stella isn’t really dead. That way, you’ve always got something to cling to.”
Having a friend like this was exhausting.
If Evan insisted on stirring up trouble, Amos’s life wouldn’t exactly stay peaceful either.
Seaborne had never been the calmest place to begin with, but ever since Evan arrived, everything had gone completely off the rails.
At this point, Amos was thoroughly fed up with him.
And the fact that all this chaos had started because Evan couldn’t handle his own relationship only made Amos more annoyed.
“I genuinely think there’s something off about this,” Evan said.
He meant it.
Ever since he learned that Felix had walked away from everything and disappeared, the whole situation had felt more and more suspicious.
Amos nodded. “Sure. You found yourself a very convenient reason to feel better.”
