Amos took Ivy and got out of Seaborne as fast as he could.
They were gone that very afternoon.
When Evan heard the news, his expression darkened.
Before leaving, Amos had even tossed him one last piece of advice.
“If it comes down to it, just back down a little. Aaron can actually be pretty softhearted.”
Long after Amos was gone, Evan still hadn’t recovered from the absurdity of that statement.
Did Amos even hear himself?
Back down?
He wanted Evan to back down to Aaron?
What kind of joke was that?
And Aaron was softhearted?
That was an even bigger joke.
When Yara learned that Amos had taken Ivy and left, she realized just how serious things had become.
Especially after hearing that Aaron might personally come to Seaborne.
“Evan, maybe you should leave too.”
Even Amos had taken Ivy and fled.
Unlike Amos, Yara had no illusions about Aaron.
As far as she was concerned, Aaron was completely insane.
Truly, terrifyingly insane.
Evan frowned. “Leave?”
“He’s a madman. If he comes here himself, I’m afraid...”
Yara thought back to the ruthless way Aaron had spoken about Evan when he and Felix were making their plans.
She was genuinely scared.
Nothing good could come from confronting a man like that.
Someone was going to get hurt.
No.
It wouldn’t stop at getting hurt.
Someone could actually die.
During the time Yara had spent around Aaron, she had seen firsthand just how little a human life could mean to people like him.
She was terrified.
“You need to leave. You really do,” she urged. “And if he wants the signed divorce papers, just give them to him.”
Whatever it took to avoid facing Aaron head-on, Evan should do it.
Evan pressed his lips into a hard line and looked at her coldly.
“Evan...”
“Shut up.”
