…
On Mance Island, Remi leaned close to Stella.
“Someone just tried to get up here. They must know you’re on the island.”
“Litt’s men?”
If so, Litt was more capable than she had given him credit for.
Even with the battle raging below, he had still managed to track her movements and send people after her.
Remi shook her head.
“Seymour says they were Aaron’s men.”
Stella fell silent.
Aaron’s men?
A dark look crossed her eyes.
Then her lips curved into a cold smile.
“So he wants to use me to force Amos to retreat.”
Her own brother.
What was she even supposed to say about him anymore?
First, he had protected Summer.
Then he had nearly traded Stella to Litt for his own interests.
And now, to keep that old man alive, he wanted to capture his own sister and use her against Amos?
Who was Amos to her?
He was merely one of Evan’s closest friends.
Did Aaron truly believe Amos was risking everything tonight solely to avenge Evan?
Had he never heard that loyalty often died with the person?
Stella called Aaron.
He answered almost immediately.
“Stella.”
“If Amos refuses to give in, are you going to have your men kill me?”
Aaron said nothing.
The line went completely silent.
“What a wonderful brother you are.”
Her voice dripped with mockery.
“Litt cannot die,” Aaron said. “I didn’t find the old book you told me about.”
“You lied to me, Stella.”
She had deceived Felix.
And now she had deceived Aaron too.
