Chapter 329: Saying goodbye

Alicia’s POV

Just as Alexander promised, two days later he personally escorted Aimy and me to the airport.

"You really should’ve gone straight to the company," I said as we stepped onto the tarmac. Our flight was scheduled for early morning, so I’d told him there was no need to come. But, as usual, he insisted on seeing us off.

Instead of answering, his eyes softened as they rested on me.

"Are you sure you’ll be alright?"

I smiled helplessly.

"We’ve been over this for days, Alexander. Aimy and I will be fine. You don’t have to come with us."

He let out a quiet sigh before glancing toward Aimy, who was already boarding the private jet with the trusted staff he’d assigned to accompany us.

"Alright," he finally said.

"But promise you’ll call me if anything happens."

"I will."

Before I could lose my courage, I stood on my tiptoes and pressed a gentle kiss against his lips.

Alexander’s eyes widened in surprise.

After all...

It was the first time I’d ever initiated something like this.

And in public, no less.

A moment later, his hand slipped around my waist as he deepened the kiss, turning what I’d intended to be a brief peck into something much longer.

When he finally let me go, my cheeks burned.

Embarrassed, I glanced around.

Everyone nearby—his staff and security personnel—had politely looked away.

Even so...

I was certain they’d all seen what had happened.

I shot Alexander a glare.

"What?" he asked innocently, though the amusement dancing in his eyes completely gave him away.

"You started it, didn’t you?"

I narrowed my eyes.

"Will you just go already?"

Instead of looking offended, his smile only grew wider.

"I will."

"After I see you off."

After giving me a few more reminders that I’d probably heard a hundred times already, he finally let me board the jet.

As I settled into my seat, I looked out the window.

Alexander was still standing beside his car, watching the aircraft.

He remained there until we finally began taxiing.

A lump formed in my throat.

The last time I left...

I’d been desperately trying to get away from him.

Now...

Leaving him behind made me feel as though a part of me was missing.

I never imagined there would come a day when saying goodbye to Alexander would be the hardest part of leaving.

"Mummy?"

Aimy’s soft voice pulled me from my thoughts.

"Why did we leave Daddy behind?"

I smiled and gently stroked her hair.

"He has to work, sweetheart."

"But we’ll come back?"

"Of course."

"We’ll be back very soon."

"Aren’t you excited to see Aunt Anna and everyone else?"

Her face instantly lit up.

"I am!"

"I miss them."

"So do I, baby."

"But we’ll see them in just a few hours."

Uncle Herbert and the others came to welcome us at the airport.

Seeing their familiar faces immediately made Rosewood Town feel like home again.

Over the next few days, I focused on wrapping up everything at Whitemore Industries.

Since I wouldn’t be staying to oversee the textile division we’d built together, I officially handed its management over to Anna.

She knew the project almost as well as I did, so there was no one I trusted more.

On my final day at the company, President Evan unexpectedly invited me to lunch.

My first instinct was to decline.

But after everything we’d worked on together, I couldn’t think of a reasonable excuse.

"Thank you for agreeing to have lunch with me," he said after we were seated at a nearby restaurant.

I smiled politely.

"Thank you for inviting me, President Evan."

He studied me for a moment before sighing.

"I’ve told you before."

"You don’t have to be so formal with me."

I smiled apologetically.

"I’m sorry."

"I’m simply used to addressing you that way."

"And... I prefer it."

He chuckled.

"I suppose I can’t force you."

After placing our orders, silence settled between us.

Eventually, he spoke again.

"So..."

"You’re relocating to Velaridge City?"

Later, when I told Anna what had happened, she wasn’t surprised.

Instead, she told me that after we’d left, everyone had learned he had once been married.

His wife had left him after discovering he’d been unfaithful.

Remembering how confidently he’d questioned my decision to forgive Alexander...

I couldn’t help shaking my head.

For someone who had betrayed his own marriage, he had no right to judge mine.

I felt relieved though, at least i never gave him a chance to come too close to me.

I spent the next few days packing the important documents I’d left behind, along with a few personal belongings for both Aimy and me.

Almost a week after arriving in Rosewood Town, everything was finally settled, and it was time to return to Velaridge City.

"Are you really leaving me now?" Anna asked, holding onto my hand with an exaggeratedly pitiful expression.

I couldn’t help laughing.

"Don’t make it sound like we’ll never see each other again."

"You can always come and visit us, and I’ll make sure to come back whenever I have the chance too."

She smiled, but there was still a trace of sadness in her eyes.

"You know..."

"The first time you left..."

"I already had a feeling you wouldn’t come back."

I looked at her in surprise.

"Really?"

She nodded.

"I saw the way you looked at him."

"There was so much love in your eyes, even though you tried so hard to hide it."

"I just hoped one day you’d realize what your heart truly wanted."

Her words made me smile.

Before I could say anything, she stepped forward and wrapped me in a warm hug.

"I hope you always stay happy."

"And safe."

I hugged her back tightly.

"Thank you so much, Anna."

After saying goodbye to her, I went to find Aunt Margaret and Aunt Veronica.

Unfortunately...

That farewell ended in tears.

During the past two years, they hadn’t simply looked after me.

They had become the mother figures I’d desperately needed.

Aunt Margaret gently cupped my face before smiling warmly.

"When a man looks at his wife and child the way Alexander looks at the two of you..."

"There’s nothing left for us to worry about."

"I know he’ll cherish both you and Aimy."

"I hope the three of you stay happy forever."
