Brandon Jacobs was so infatuated with Elsa. Lying there with her, he couldn’t resist wanting to make a move.
Elsa had never refused him before, but this time, she didn’t let him have his way.
"I want some water. Go get me a glass."
Brandon Jacobs, afraid of letting her go thirsty, hurried out.
He hadn’t been back in days, so there was no hot water. The weather was so cold, and he couldn’t bear to let her drink cold water, so he waited in the kitchen for it to boil.
The moment he left, Elsa clutched her stomach in pain.
She lay on the bed for a long while before finally getting up to find her medicine, swallowing several pills at once.
A moment later, Brandon Jacobs returned with a cup of hot water.
As he watched, Elsa finished the water sip by sip, then suddenly spoke.
"You should go home."
They had just been having such a pleasant chat; he’d thought Elsa would let him stay the night.
Elsa gave him a rare, gentle smile and squeezed his cheek.
"My mother isn’t well. I have to go up and stay with her. Hurry and go now."
Brandon Jacobs actually wouldn’t have minded staying with her next to Mrs. Vaughn’s room to keep her company.
The house was so big and empty; it must be incredibly boring for her to be here all alone.
But Mrs. Vaughn was a mother, after all. It wouldn’t be right for her to see him lying in bed with her daughter.
"All right, then. I’ll go. Can I come see you again tomorrow night? We don’t have to do anything. I just want to see you."
"Okay," Elsa agreed gently.
Brandon Jacobs practically skipped all the way out.
He knew Elsa was treating him differently now. He knew he would win her over sooner or later. They would be together eventually.
As soon as Brandon Jacobs left, Elsa downloaded a translation app on her phone, grabbed her wallet, and left the villa as well.
She had just reached the roadside when a taxi pulled up. "Hey, pretty lady. Need a ride? Where to?"
Elsa got in, spoke a few sentences in English, and handed him her phone to read.
The taxi driver read the translation. "You’re looking for a desert? We don’t have one here in Veridia. That’s a long way off."
"How far?"
"Over 1,000 kilometers."
"Do you know where to find one?"
"I do. Besides Xincheng, there’s Ganton. But Xincheng is too far. Ganton has gotten pretty popular these past two years. A lot of young people go there. I’d suggest you go there."
"Take me there. I’ll pay your fare."
The driver was taken aback.
’This is the first time I’ve ever had a fare for such a long distance.’
"It’s over a thousand kilometers! The tolls alone will be over a thousand yuan, plus gas, plus my hourly rate... you’d better think this through!"
"Is ten thousand yuan enough?"
Elsa pulled out a thick stack of cash and tossed it onto the passenger seat. "Let’s go."
Once the car was on the highway, she finally sent a message to Damien Vaughn.
"You should go see your mother. I’m leaving. Don’t book a ticket for me; I’ll buy my own."
In his office, Damien Vaughn was trying to placate a fuming Cecelia Archer.
"I’m completely devoted to you, I’ve never even considered anyone else. Please, believe me, okay? If you don’t believe me, check my phone. If you can find a single thing out of line, I’ll have nothing more to say!"
He unlocked his phone and held it out to Cecelia Archer.
Cecelia Archer had no interest in looking, but he insisted on shoving the phone into her hands.
"You can look through whatever you want, I’m not just saying that because I’m angry... Cecelia, Candy is still waiting for me to pick her up. We’ve worked so hard to get to where we are today. Can we please not fight?"
"Who’s fighting with you?"
Cecelia Archer subconsciously glanced at his phone screen. Just as she was about to say something, a new message notification popped up.
Sender—Elsa.
