Ryan hadn’t expected the two of them to show up at the company so suddenly, and they were clearly here for Cecelia Archer.
’It’s obvious the Second Uncle told them. He’s deliberately stirring up trouble. This is outrageous!’
He quickly moved to stand in front of Cecelia.
"Mr. Bell, President Vaughn has gone to Corvane to discuss financing. He isn’t at the company right now. If you need something, you can call him directly..."
"You think I need you to tell me that?"
The Second Uncle had a fiery temper and shoved Ryan’s shoulder hard.
"If his damn phone was reachable, do you think we’d waste our time coming here? Cut the crap! Who’s that standing behind you? Tell her to come out!"
Ryan did his best to shield Cecelia.
"She’s not Cecelia Archer. She just bears a slight resemblance. Her name is Luna Linden."
"A slight resemblance? You think such a coincidence exists in this world? Get out of the way and let me see!"
Fearing Cecelia would be harmed, Ryan stood his ground and didn’t move.
"Mr. Bell, it’s working hours right now. President Vaughn won’t be happy if he finds out about this. Whatever you have to say, please wait until he returns. I’ll relay the message to him immediately and have him visit you. How does that sound?"
"Ryan! Out of respect for you being one of Damien’s longtime employees, I’m trying to be civil and not get physical. Don’t push me! When I tell you to move, you move! Is our family’s business something an assistant like you has any right to meddle in?"
Even though he was just an assistant, he still had his pride and dignity. Being cursed at with a finger pointed in his face hurt Ryan deeply.
But he couldn’t step aside. He just couldn’t.
"Mr. Bell..."
SMACK!
The Second Uncle raised his hand and slapped Ryan across the face.
"I tried to be nice, but you’re asking for it! Get the hell out of my way!"
"Mr. Bell!"
"Ryan!"
Cecelia grabbed his arm and pulled him back a step.
"Ryan, are you alright?"
The Second Uncle had used a lot of force. Five distinct red marks were now visible on Ryan’s fair face.
Cecelia felt as if the slap had landed on her own face. She turned and glared sternly at the Second Uncle.
"We live in a society governed by laws. An assistant is a professional hired through a formal process, with an employment contract, and is protected by labor laws and the legal system. In the corporate hierarchy, he is a subordinate, but as a person, he is not your inferior. What right do you have to strike him?"
The Second Uncle wasn’t very familiar with Cecelia. He had specifically found a photo of her.
He now took out his phone and compared the photo to her face.
"The resemblance is this uncanny and you’re still fucking denying it? Still saying you’re not Cecelia Archer? Who are you trying to fool? A murderer is standing here lecturing me about the law? Are you kidding me? Settle your own debts before you talk!"
"Big Brother, I’m sure of it, it’s her! Call the police! Get her arrested right now!"
As he was about to dial 911, Ryan darted forward again.
"Mr. Bell, she’s really not Cecelia Archer! If you don’t believe me, I can find old media interview reports for you to see! She’s from the Grant Group and was a huge help on the Windmount project. President Vaughn will be furious if he finds out you’ve treated her this way!"
"Haven’t you had enough of a beating?"
The Second Uncle refused to listen to his explanation, pointing viciously at Ryan’s nose.
"Don’t think I won’t hit you just because this stupid broad said a few words for you! Dare to say one more word, and I’ll rip your mouth off!"
Ryan: "...Mr. Bell, can you please be reasonable?"
"Reasonable my ass!"
Seeing Ryan’s persistence, the Second Uncle’s temper flared. He grabbed Ryan’s shirt and shoved him backward.
Caught off guard, Ryan couldn’t brace himself and was thrown against a desk in an instant.
