At that, Clara jumped for joy. "Yay, Damian's the best! I love Auntie and Damian the most!"
With that, she went back to picking strawberries.
Scarlett turned to glance at Damian. His eyes were fixed on Clara, soft and full of affection.
Feeling her gaze, Damian didn't look at her. He kept watching Clara, but his words were meant for Scarlett. "If you keep staring at me, Clara will see. Then she'll get jealous again."
Scarlett curved her lips, covering her mouth lightly. "She's too busy picking strawberries. She probably won't notice us."
Damian drew out his tone. "Oh, really?"
"That's right," she replied.
The second her words fell, Damian turned swiftly and pressed a quick kiss on her cheek.
It happened so fast Scarlett barely registered it before he was already looking back at Clara.
She lowered her head, smiling shyly.
Damian stole a glance at her. Seeing her smile, he smiled too.
This was how he liked it.
She was his woman. He loved her, and she loved him back.
If he could, he'd stay like this forever.
If that meant paying a price, he'd give up his status, his wealth, his power—anything.
All Damian ever wanted was simple happiness for the two of them.
Clara filled two baskets with strawberries and ate quite a few as well.
After weighing the fruit and settling the bill, Damian drove her back to Theron Manor.
They stayed for a short while before he headed off again, taking Scarlett to campus.
It was half past two in the afternoon when they arrived.
Damian was reluctant to part with her and lingered by the car.
A quick check of the clock told them it was almost three o'clock, the time they had agreed on.
Scarlett spoke softly, "I really have to head inside now."
Damian looked at her, unwilling to let her go. "Send me a message once you're finished. I'll come pick you up right away."
