Chapter 29
He snorts. A beautiful woman offers herself to us, with a scent that makes us almost pass out from the smell, it’s so tantalizing, and you think I was going to turn something like that down? Are you even a man, he demanded.
What if it had been Marissa?
He’s instantly repelled by the question, shaking his head vehemently and even snorting with annoyance.
Then our dick wouldn’t have gotten hard, and we wouldn’t have lost control. You’re going to have to look at alternative ways of getting that nasty bitch pregnant cause I sure as hell aren’t going to let her carry my pup.
Lucifer, you aren’t going to have a choice, I told him, my voice trailing off as I felt the full depths of his anger.
Lucifer didn’t understand. Or maybe he did, but wanted to move on and push past everything we’d been forced to endure in our past. But I couldn’t let it go. I couldn’t forget. Images tormented my dreams and made me wake up gasping. Monsters. They existed but the biggest monster of all had been a shifter, a blood relation, and the ultimate betrayer. It was because of this man, this despicable excuse of a father that I couldn’t bring myself to love anyone. Love left you vulnerable. It weakened you. It left you broken inside and caused so much pain that you wished you had been the one to die instead. I had Aeress, but even then, we weren’t overly close, no matter how hard she tried to break through my walls. It was for her I kept my distance, knowing that I was cursed, broken and incapable of giving her the unconditional sibling love she deserved. I wished her every happiness, but I could not be a part of it. I would always be in the shadows, protecting my heart and watching enviously from the sidelines. She at least had Jackson to keep her company through the long, cold nights, to love her as she deserved. He was a good man, even if I didn’t particularly like the idea of my best friend being with my sister.
But what if Raven was the one who could achieve the impossible and break down the barriers that I was so desperate to keep up? What if she were the one heal what had been broken? I couldn’t allow that to happen. I would not let her be another casualty. From now on, I would keep my distance until she realized that what we had would never happen again. Not in this lifetime.
So why did my heart ache so bad at the thought of never touching her again?
