Reconciliation-1

James stood outside Tamsin’s office, his heart pounding in his chest as he replayed the whirlwind of emotions that had consumed him over the last few days. The initial excitement of finding his mate, his true, fated partner, had been overwhelming, filling him with a joy he’d never experienced. The connection between them had been electric, each touch igniting a fire that neither of them could quench. Their time together had been intoxicating, filled with passionate moments where they couldn’t get enough of each other. The sheer ecstasy of being in her arms had made him believe that they were unbreakable.

But then it all came crashing down when Tamsin refused the marking.

Her rejection had struck him like a blow to the chest, leaving him breathless and confused. He had expected her to embrace their bond, to move to the Stormheart Pack with him, but instead, she had refused. The words she spoke echoed in his mind, driving him to the edge, *I can’t come with you, James. I have responsibilities here.* It was as if she had severed a piece of his soul.

The argument that followed had spiraled out of control, both of them saying things they hadn’t meant, emotions running high until she had thrown him out of her room. He had been left standing in the hallway, utterly shocked, heartbroken, and lost.

Now, as he stood in front of her office door, James knew that Azriel had been right. They needed to talk. Really talk. They couldn’t continue down this path, full of unspoken fears and misunderstandings. Steeling himself, he knocked twice and opened the door, bracing for what he might find.

The sight that greeted him hit him harder than he could have ever imagined.

There she was, Tamsin, sitting behind her desk with her face buried in her hands, her shoulders shaking with quiet sobs. Tears stained her cheeks, her eyes red and swollen from crying. The confident, fierce woman he had fallen for looked utterly broken, and it shattered his heart to see her this way.

Instinctively, James scanned the room for threats, his Beta senses kicking in as he searched for the cause of her distress. When he realized they were alone, his gaze fell back on Tamsin. Panic flickered inside him,

something was wrong. *Why was she crying? Had someone hurt her?*

“Tamsin,” he said urgently, his voice rough with concern. “Why are you crying? What happened?”

Tamsin looked up at him, startled by his presence. Her lips trembled, and for a brief moment, she looked

vulnerable, far from the strong and independent woman he knew.

“I… I thought you left,” she whispered, her voice barely audible.

James blinked, confused by her words. *Left?* He had planned to, after everything that had happened

between them, but Azriel was right, he couldn’t just walk away without closure. Without knowing where they stood.
