Runaway Mommy: My Boss is the Father novel Chapter 16

"If you're so capable, go find Mr. Hayes yourself and have him change your position. But since you're interning in the secretarial department, you play by our rules."

If Seraphina walked out of here and embarrassed herself, she would be embarrassing the entire department.

Jaxson had seven or eight secretaries, and naturally, not every single one got to see him. An intern like Seraphina wasn't even stationed on the same floor as Jaxson's office.

Stung by the reprimand, Seraphina fumed quietly. Her long acrylic nails made typing uncomfortable, so she shoved her keyboard away in frustration.

She pulled out her phone and texted everything that had just happened to her brother, Sebastian Judson.

Sebastian was swamped with work and had zero patience to coddle her. "I ordered takeout for you from your favorite Japanese place, and I bought some for your colleagues too. Behave yourself, and don't make things difficult for Jaxson."

Seraphina was too young to understand how to survive in a corporate environment.

Checking the time, Phoebe took the elevator down to the parking garage and found Jaxson's car.

"Mr. Hayes, I'm here."

"Give me two minutes."

A moment later, Jaxson emerged from his private elevator. He unlocked the car with his key fob, and Phoebe leaned in to grab Lily's jacket from the backseat.

"Thank you, Mr. Hayes. Sorry to bother you."

Jaxson frowned. "Do you have time after work?"

"Huh?"

"I'll take you to buy some clothes for your daughter as compensation."

Yesterday, Theo had torn Lily's dress.

Clutching Lily's jacket, Phoebe took a step back. "That's not necessary. I'll just send you the bill."

There was no need to buy clothes. Lily's clothes weren't expensive, but she had plenty of them. Kids grew fast, and they would need to buy new ones soon anyway.

Besides, she didn't want any more interactions with Jaxson than absolutely necessary.

The jacket had been sitting in the backseat, absorbing the scent of the cologne in Jaxson's car. It was a woody fragrance—understated, luxurious, and cold as the moon.

Just like the man himself.

Phoebe bit her lower lip, reminding herself over and over in her head.

He already had a family. He was completely out of her league. Other than work, they couldn't have any relationship whatsoever.

"Mr. Hayes, I'm going back upstairs."

Dropping those words, Phoebe turned and left without looking back.

Jaxson's expression darkened. He watched Phoebe practically run into the elevator, a heavy breath catching in his chest.

He lit a cigarette. The rush of nicotine briefly stalled his brain. As the smoke cleared, he noticed cigarette ash scattered across his shoes. The cigarette had burned down to the filter without him realizing, the heat scorching his fingertips. Jaxson stubbed it out and walked toward the elevator.
