Jaxson pulled out his phone, searching up standard conception dates and estimated due dates.

If her daughter was born in December or the following January... then it was entirely possible that Phoebe's child was his.

At that thought, Jaxson crushed his cigarette, grabbed his suit jacket from the chair, and strode out the door. He dialed Valerie's number. "I'm going to pick up Theo. You don't need to go."

"Huh?"

Valerie was completely bewildered on the other end.

Had Jaxson suddenly bonded with Theo after picking him up just once?

It was a shame the little guy practically shivered in fear whenever he saw Jaxson. But thinking about how much her mother-in-law spoiled Theo at home, Valerie figured any extra time spent with Jaxson couldn't hurt.

Her interest peaked. "Are you seriously getting baby fever? I'm telling you, Jaxson, if you like kids so much, just have one yourself."

"I'm hanging up," Jaxson stated flatly.

He ended the call, headed straight for the elevator, and clocked out early.

Watching the lights in the executive office go dark, Simon blinked in surprise. "Mr. Hayes is leaving this early today? He's really just gone?"

Nearby, Seraphina was touching up her makeup. Hearing this, the compact slipped from her hand and shattered on the floor.

He drove to the kindergarten.

Jaxson's Wrangler pulled up to the curb. His long legs stepped out of the vehicle, his tailored suit perfectly highlighting his elegant, aloof demeanor. Combined with his stern expression and incredible physique, several kindergarten teachers found themselves swooning, cupping their cheeks in awe.

He was used to drawing those kinds of stares wherever he went, having dealt with them his entire life.

He strode into the courtyard and found Theo standing by the swings, pushing Lily.

The moment Theo saw Jaxson, his face fell. "Jaxson."

Too scared to ask why Jaxson was picking him up again, Theo stood off to the side, completely terrified.

"Yeah."
