Runaway Mommy: My Boss is the Father novel Chapter 31

“Yeah, that'll do.”

Simon Sterling let out a long sigh of relief, only to hear Jaxson Hayes speak as he turned to leave. “Expense the handkerchief.”

The handkerchief had been a complementary gift from a luxury brand, but purchasing it outright still cost several thousand dollars. Jaxson knew its worth and wasn't about to take advantage of anyone.

Standing behind him, Simon practically cried tears of joy.

He was absolutely going to be the best Chief Gatekeeper ever!

After dinner.

Autumn Yates's husband came to pick her up. She looked at Phoebe Vance. “You want to ride with us?”

“That's too much trouble. Just drop me off at the nearest subway station.”

They had chosen a spicy bistro near the company for their team dinner. Autumn and Phoebe lived on opposite sides of the city. If they drove Phoebe all the way back, Autumn wouldn't get home until after midnight.

Autumn dramatically clasped her hands together. “Darling, you are so sweet! If I were your husband, I wouldn't do a damn thing every night but hold you and kiss you!”

Phoebe was speechless.

Fortunately, she was used to Autumn's eccentric way of speaking.

The car drove for a bit, merging into traffic.

Sitting in the passenger seat, Autumn chatted away. “I'm telling you, I ran into Mr. Hayes yesterday while carrying those clothes, and it scared the life out of me. If I had known, I would've just brought them to you today.”

She ran into Jaxson?

Phoebe thought back to the parking garage yesterday, when Jaxson had offered to buy clothes for Lily Lennox, and she had rejected him.

Running into Autumn right after that probably meant Jaxson hadn't looked too pleased.

But it didn't matter. He had seen her carrying the clothes at the kindergarten that afternoon anyway.

As the wind blew through the car window, Phoebe felt like all her embarrassment and awkwardness had been completely exposed to Jaxson. She was a struggling mess, and he was flawless and glamorous.

He was probably laughing at her.

“It's fine. It's not like the company has a rule against colleagues helping each other out.”
