Jason was still packing his bags when dozens of bodyguards swarmed him, pinning him roughly to the floor.
Theresa snapped out of her shock and scrambled to help him, but before she could get close, a large hand clamped like a vise around her wrist. With a sharp yank, she lost her balance and stumbled hard into Victor Lockridge's chest.
Victor radiated a deadly, chilling aura, his eyes bloodshot with fury—and a twisted hint of betrayal.
"You spent a week abroad, alone with him?" he gritted out, his jaw clenched tight.
Theresa’s heart skipped a beat, but her gaze quickly hardened. "First of all, Victor, we're broken up. You agreed to it. Who I spend my time with is none of your business."
"Second, whether you believe it or not, Jason and I are completely platonic."
Until she completely severed ties with Victor, even if she had feelings for Jason, she only viewed him as a friend who had fought by her side.
During their time away, they had strictly maintained that boundary.
But Victor had stopped listening after her first sentence. A blinding rage consumed him.
She didn't deny it.
And she was actually emphasizing their breakup?!
His dark gaze shifted to Jason on the floor, his fists clenching so hard his knuckles cracked.
He had treated Jason like a friend, like a brother. And this bastard had taken advantage of his vulnerability to stab him in the back?
Fury instantly swallowed him whole.
Losing all control, Victor lunged, driving his fist downward in a brutal swing aimed straight at Jason.
Sensing his loss of control, Theresa didn't even think. She threw herself between them, squeezing her eyes shut, ready to take the brutal blow herself.
Victor’s pupils constricted. He desperately pulled back his momentum.
His fist grazed right past her cheek.
She felt the sharp rush of air.
If that punch had connected, it would have shattered her bones.
Victor stared at her, horrified by his own near-miss. Seeing her shield Jason like a martyr fueled his furious jealousy, which quickly morphed into a suffocating wave of despair.
His ears rang.
All he could see was Theresa protecting Jason, glaring at him as if he were her worst enemy.
