Soren's expression darkened.
Irritation flared in his chest.
"You've known Evangeline for a few months," he retorted, deliberately emphasizing his next words. "We were married for five years."
Finn raised an eyebrow. "Exactly. After being married for so long, you should be perfectly clear on how she feels about you now."
He cast a pointed glance at the bowl of porridge resting on the bedside table.
Soren's face turned even uglier.
During his entire hospital stay, Evangeline hadn't visited him properly even once.
He had craved her homemade porridge, begging for it repeatedly, only for her to coldly order him takeout instead.
But when Finn got sick?
Evangeline had stayed by his side all night. She bought him breakfast the moment she woke up and even hand-fed it to him.
Those things used to belong to him.
The thought made a vein throb violently at Soren's temple.
Just as Finn said, he had been married to her for five years. He knew exactly what it looked like when Evangeline loved him, which meant he knew better than anyone that she felt nothing for him now.
The realization made his chest tighten painfully.
Still, he forced his expression to remain indifferent, rationalizing the situation in his mind.
She didn't love him, fine.
But she didn't love Finn either.
If she did, why would she leave him alone in the hospital?
Back when Soren was sick, Evangeline never left his side.
Besides, he still had a chance. She had promised him that for millions of dollars, she would agree to remarry him.
Millions of dollars. He could arrange that easily.
The thought brought his arrogant confidence seeping back.
He stood up with a cold scoff. "A day as husband and wife means a lifetime of connection. She only hates me right now because of a few misunderstandings. Once I clear them up, she'll come running back to me."
"My relationship with her isn't like Victor's messed-up history. Evangeline truly loved me. Even if that love is buried right now, the foundation is still there. One day, she'll change her mind."
With that, Soren kicked his chair aside.
