"Jeffrey was there the day Xavier had his accident!" Lydia pushed herself up, her gaze steady as she screamed back at him.
"He was the only one I remembered being there! So I went to ask him what he actually saw that day! You've been misunderstanding me for twenty years! Every time I said I didn't do it, did you ever believe me?!"
Gideon refused to listen to her excuses. His fury boiled over as he tore off his shirt and snarled.
"So you slept with him to get him to commit perjury for you, is that it?!"
"You bastard!" Lydia lunged up to slap him, but he easily pinned her back against the mattress. Discarding his shirt, he loomed over her. "You already did it. Why are you so afraid to admit it?"
"Jeffrey is your friend! Don't drag him through the mud just because you hate me!" she struggled, defending the innocent man.
But right now, the man was like a cornered beast. Images from the news flashed through his mind, and an uncontrollable rage surged in his eyes!
She had walked through that door for half an hour! She had been completely alone with Jeffrey for thirty minutes!!
Lydia could feel his seething hatred and his burning jealousy.
A tiny sliver of hope sparked within her. He had to love her, right? Why else would he react so violently?
Early the next morning.
When Lydia opened her eyes to an aching body, a contraceptive pill and a glass of water were thrust in front of her. "Take it. You don't deserve to bear my child."
He stood by the bed, his expression freezing. He looked devastatingly handsome, yet his words and actions were unspeakably cruel.
"And you don't deserve to be a father to my child," she shot back stubbornly. She snatched the pill and swallowed it down with the water.
Gideon left, acting as if absolutely nothing had happened.
He didn't bring up last night, nor did he display any anger. In fact, his departure was almost unsettlingly calm, leaving Lydia feeling entirely disoriented.
Wasn't he going to warn her again?
Warn her never to see Jeffrey again.
After she got out of bed, Lydia realized that every single article about her and Jeffrey had been scrubbed from the internet. Not a single trace remained.
