Chapter 138

Cecilia’s POV

My voice wasn’t loud enough for everyone to hear, but Sophia’s eyes darted in my direction, and they turned into slits as she glared at me. For a moment, it felt like we were the only ones in this room and there wasn’t enough air for both of us to breathe.

I felt a surge of betrayal and confusion, wishing I could better understand her thoughts and feelings.

Sophia was once my best friend and someone I considered to be a sister, even before I knew that my father was also her father. It’s the first time I’m seeing them since the betrayal when my father forced me to take Sophia’s place as an Omega.

Sophia was gorgeous, with her long blonde hair that reached her waist, her deep maroon dress that hugged her body perfectly, and jewelry that looked like it cost more than my father’s packhouse.

She looked like a true queen in that moment, and my heart twisted at the sight. I couldn’t help but feel a mix of admiration and resentment, sensing her ambition to become the King’s bride.

My chest tightened at the thought of her and King Leopold together… sharing a bed that I had once slept in. A wave of jealousy and heartbreak washed over me, making my heart race faster in my chest.

She didn’t say anything to me, not that I was expecting her to. Instead, she turned her head towards Landon as he continued speaking.

“We are to make these ladies, and the Alphas feel as welcome as possible. They are our guests. There will be no fighting. Everybody, including the concubines, will have a chance with the King at the ball tomorrow. For the time being, he is very busy and asks not to be disturbed. Is that understood?”

We all nodded in response, though my eyes never left Sophia. I couldn’t believe she was actually standing in front of me, beside my father, like she was his prized daughter.

“Very good,” Landon said before he cleared his throat. “I have appointed some of the slaves to escort you to your rooms.” He was now addressing only the guests.

“What time should we be expected to be fed?” My father asked, his voice cutting through my haze like a knife.

I had to stop myself from rolling my eyes; my father was always thinking about food, so I wasn’t surprised that he was asking about the meal schedule.

“Dinner will be served in the dining hall at 6,” Landon replied. “A slave will escort you. Dress accordingly.”

My father nodded and gave Diana a look that made her beam a little too brightly. I internally questioned why she was even here. None of the other Alphas brought their Lunas or mistresses.

“If that’s all the questions, you are now excused,” Landon said as he stepped away.

The foyer erupted into motion.

Voices layered over one another as the guests… the potential consorts, began to disperse, their laughter and polite conversation filling the space like nothing had just shifted beneath my feet.

Like my world wasn’t tilting.

I felt a storm of confusion and heartbreak swirling inside me, making it hard to breathe or think clearly, pulling me deeper into my emotional turmoil.

I couldn’t move.

My body felt locked in place, my gaze still fixed on Sophia as she turned slightly to one of the slaves, guiding her toward the corridor.

My father and Diana were walking behind her; neither of them seemed to notice me. And if they had noticed me, they were pretending they didn’t. It was almost as if I didn’t exist in their world anymore.

A little over a month ago, thought1 was one of them, part of a family I trusted. But now I see how they played me, and the betrayal cuts deeper than I expected, leaving me questioning everything I believed about my relationships and my place in this world.

But they both played me, and now they were here trying to turn my world inside out… again.
