Chapter 163
Her gaze was fixed on Sophia, and I internally cursed myself.
I could see it on her face; the realization, the assumption… the pain. It was the same pain I had seen earlier in the day.
For a brief moment, I saw the truth here… it was raw and unguarded.
And then, it was gone. Replaced by the wall she had learned to build so well.
She didn’t wait for an explanation. She turned and ran down the hallway, leaving me standing there with nothing but the weight
of it.
Third Person POV
Vivian had been watching for longer than she cared to admit. From the shadows of the corridor, just out of sight, where she could observe without being seen. She had seen Sophia enter his chambers and had seen the door close behind her.
And she had waited.
Minutes stretched… and then longer.
Long enough for her to imagine what was going on behind that closed door, she was smart enough to fill in the gaps. They’ve been spending a lot of time together lately, and it was aggravating for the rest of them… aggravating for Viyian.
Sophia stepped out of the room; her hair was loose, and her clothes disheveled. Her lips were slightly parted as she said something to Leopold. He didn’t seem to be paying attention, though; his eyes were trained on something else.
Vivian followed his gaze, and she scowled when she saw Cecilia at the other end of the hallway, also watching them. She looked pained, but she masked it quickly and took off in the opposite direction.
Sophia clearly enjoyed the little performance she just put on, as shown by the smile that stretched across her face.
Vivian’s stomach twisted violently.
Of course… he was torn between those two.
Sophia left without another word, and just as Leopold was about to shut the door, Vivian made her move. This was her chance; she was unraveling in the worst way. She needed to assert herself if she wanted even a chance at becoming a queen and continuing her luxurious life. She would be dammed if she had to leave this palace in the next few days.
She truly was not going back to her pack without anything to show for it.
Before the door could fully shut, Vivian placed her foot in the crack, keeping it open. Leopold paused and looked down at her, his eyes furrowed.
“What do you think you’re doing?”
“You’ve been spending an awful lot of time with that woman, Your Majesty. Maybe it’s time for you to give someone else a chance?” Vivian boldly said as she stepped into his room.
His brows furrowed.
“You are crossing a line,” he told her. “Leave my room at once.”
“I’m not sure what it is you see in either of them. Sophia barely holds a candle to Cecilia and me…. well, Cecilia is nothing but an Omega. She couldn’t be queen even if you wanted her to be. If you gave me a chance…”
“Vivian-”

He started to say, a snarl in his voice, his lips twisting in disgust as he glared down at the concubine. One he barely knew well enough to entertain. One, he didn’t intend to know any better than he already did.
“You deserve to have a real woman by your side-one who knows how to take charge when necessary. I am an Alpha’s daughter as well, Your Majesty. Perhaps some other company might do you some good. Broaden your search for the perfect queen….”
She reached out to touch him; it was a bold move, even for her.
It happened in an instant.
His eyes flashed.
