The Alpha King's Mind Reading Maid (Cecilia) novel Chapter 212

Chapter 212

cilia’s POV

When I hit the wall, a sharp gasp escaped me as my vision blurred for a moment. The impact rattled through my nervous body, hard enough to leave me dizzy and confused. I blinked several times before my vision refocused, and then I saw him.

Leopold.

He was standing between Sophia and me; his presence filled the room. My heart hammered against my chest as 1 could hear the deep breaths of Warren within him. He was stewing and hurting, and I knew without a doubt it was my fault.

I wanted to reach out to him and apologize for what I had said, but I knew I couldn’t. I said those words on purpose to get him to leave me alone, and it seemed to have worked… a little too well.

The air itself seemed to shift around him as his gaze landed on Sophia’s bruised face and bloody nose.

Her bottom lip, which was also swollen, was wobbling as the tears that clung to her lashes spilled down her cheeks.

“Your Majesty,” she sobbed, her entire body suddenly trembling. “I tried to stop her… but she wouldn’t stop. She kept throwing these awful accusations at me… I didn’t know what else to do.”

My heart sank immediately.

He didn’t look angry at her or confused… he looked concerned for his mate. His expression was soft as he looked her over, and it made me feel sick to my stomach. Nausea rolled inside me, but I swallowed it down, trying not to appear weak.

Leopold stepped closer to her, completely ignoring my presence from across the room. He tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, allowing his fingers to gaze at the bruise on her cheek. He studied her for a moment.

“I will take you to the infirmary to get your wounds treated,” he told her, keeping his tone low.

She sniffled and wiped at her puffy and red eyes, nodding slowly.

“I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have approached her… I had no idea she would do such a thing.”

“She’s lying.”

The words tore out of me before I could stop them. I couldn’t just stand there and let her ruin me like this. I would never do such a thing, and she knew it. Leopold’s eyes finally snapped in my direction, and I flinched at the iciness of his gaze.

“Lying?” Sophia gasped, clutching onto Leopold’s arm as if it were her lifeline. “And do you suppose I just did this to myself? Be real, Cecilia…”

I couldn’t take my eyes off Leopold; his gaze was sharp and calculating. It made my chest feel tight and my breathing even harder.

“Your Majesty, Cecilia is the one lying,” one of the servants squeaked. “We saw it with our own eyes.”

They were helping Sophia deceive the King, and there was nothing I could do about it. It was her word against mine, and it was clear whose side Leopold was taking at this moment. I lowered my gaze, feeling my heart cracking open even more. 1

“Leopold’s fault…” I heard Warren mutter, anger simmering deep beneath the surface, and I stilled at the venom

his words. “He did this. Made her mad. Made her hate us.”

Who was he talking about?

I lifted my gaze, and I saw the gold flickers in his eyes, and I knew with certainty that Warren was near the surface. I wondered if Leopold even knew how close he was to losing control.

I wanted to say something… to tell him that his wolf was going to take charge if he wasn’t careful, but the gold was gone in an instant, and his eyes returned to their normal dark shade… though that anger and disappointment never truly went away.

“Your Majesty…” Sophia whimpered, clutching onto him even tighter. “My head hurts.”

He wrapped an arm around her waist to steady her, and when she looked at me, I could see the victory in her eyes. It made me feel even sicker in my stomach than I had moments ago. I knew with certainty that at some point, I was going to lose everything in my stomach.

“Your Majesty, you know I would never do such a thing..”

Leopold’s eyes snapped towards mine again, and he narrowed them.

“And you expect me to believe that this just happened to Sophia out of the blue?” Leopold asked. “How do you explain her injuries?”

“She did this to herself,” I blurted, pointing at Sophia with a trembling hand. “She’s insane, and she’s manipulating you.”
