The Alpha King's Mind Reading Maid (Cecilia) novel Chapter 223

Chapter 223

course,” Leopold said to them. “I’m sure Sophia wouldn’t mind taking Luna Diana around the palace so we can talk.”

“Alpha, I must ask… do you typically allow your concubines to dine with you in your royal dining hall?” Diana asked, raising her brows. “I know my daughter can be a bit impulsive with her invites… but you could have told her no. It just seems… dirty. Don’t you think?”

My cheeks warmed.

Leopold glanced at her, frowning.

“As you know, Cecilia is my favored concubine. She’s above the others and is treated with more respect around this palace,” Leopold explained.

“And what will you do once you marry, Sophia. Surely, you wouldn’t keep your concubines around once you marry your own mate,” Diana said. “I just don’t want my daughter’s heart to break.”

“Of course, Sophia will take priority,” he tells her, his voice controlled.

She smiled politely at him.

“So, you’ll be sending Miss Cecilia away then?” She asked. “Because from the way I see you… You really shouldn’t have leeches stuck to you, Your Majesty. And it seems that all your concubines are nothing but leaches. They only want a payout, or they want the title of Queen.”

Leopold was about to reply, but then Sophia returned, a couple of other slaves trailing behind her and joining the one in the corner near the refreshment table.

“Sorry about that,” Sophia said, taking her seat, a plastered smile gracing her lips. “I take my allergies very seriously.”

“As you should,” Leopold tells her. “Were you able to get it sorted out?”

“Yes… The kitchen was very kind,” she replied, running her fingers down her long braid to adjust it.

I frowned at her; I wondered what game she was playing. She didn’t have any allergies… in fact, it was me who had a nut allergy, but it wasn’t all wild… just pistachio.

I decided just to let it go; if she wanted to play games, I would let her play games. It wasn’t any of my business

anyway.

“Don’t they make such a great couple?” Sophia said, motioning towards Jax and me. “I always knew that Cecilia was meant for bigger things, and Jax is proof of that. A low-ranking royal Gamma. Certainly, an upgrade. I always felt so badly for her growing up… she was constantly bullied, and I was always standing up for her.”

I pressed my lips together; she was twisting the facts. It was she who always bullied me, and I who stood up for her. Nobody in our pack dared to mess with the Alpha’s daughter; they were always nice to me.

Just then, the food arrived; slaves who were in the dining hall served it. When they put my plate in front of me, the smell of the meat made me feel sick. I glanced down and saw how red it was… it was barely even cooked. I glanced at Jax’s dish… it looked normal, as did everyone else’s food.

While most ate, I just stared at the food on my plate. I really hated rare meat.

“Is something wrong, Cecilia?” Sophia asked with a frown, causing everyone else to look at me as well. “Is

something wrong with the meal the palace carefully constructed for us to enjoy?”

Nrowned.

“It’s a little… red,” I tell her, causing her frown to deepen.

“Mine’s cooked perfectly,” she tells me. “I like mine on the little red side… it must be the werewolf in me.”

“It’s luxury meat,” Diana said, narrowing her eyes at me. “I’m sure you’ve just never had anything this delicious before. Don’t get used to it.”

“You should be thankful you even get to eat it,” my father chimed in.

“I am thankful… It’s just I like my meat a little bit more… cooked,” I tell them, my cheeks warming a bit more.

“Well, I suppose if you want to ruin the dish, we can see if the palace chefs can cook it a bit more to your liking, Sophia said. “Though they are pretty busy preparing for the dessert. They might make an exception if we ask nicely.”

“It’s a shame we’d have to bother them for the dish of a concubine,” Diana said, crinkling her nose.

I pressed my lips together, keeping myself from saying something I would regret.

“That’s enough,” Leopold said, narrowing his eyes at me. “We aren’t taking any food back. Cecilia, there’s nothing wrong with your food. Stop being selfish and eat it.” 1

I flinched at his cold tone and before I could reply, Jax cleared his throat.

“Actually, mine is a little overcooked. Would you like to trade?” He asked me.

I glanced at his plate and saw that his dish was cooked perfectly.
