Chapter 231
Maybe some more flowers… or a different kind of flower?
Red Irises were gorgeous, but something about them just felt… wrong.
“Is there anything more in the kitchen?” Jasmine asked, pinching her brows together. “They were supposed to give us the perfect amount for all the guests at the dinner rehearsal.”
“Yeah, but Lady Sophia kept inviting more people,” the girl informed us. “There are a few girls from her pack that are going to be here, and there’s not enough room for them.”
“Whatever Lady Sophia wants, she gets,” another girl murmured. “We can’t make the future Queen upset. I’ll go to the kitchen to fetch us some more forks. The chefs will be here shortly, and we are going to need to start testing each food to ensure their value.”
She started towards the kitchen.
“Girls from the pack?” I asked, my stomach sinking slightly.
“Who, exactly?”
“I’m not sure; some of her friends, I guess,” the girl said, shrugging.
My brows furrowed at that; Sophia barely had friends when we were in the pack. Other than me. With her Omega status, most barely even spoke to her. I was the only one who truly gave her a chance because I didn’t care so much about singling anyone out.
So, I wondered what friends she could have invited.
“What are you doing standing around and talking?” Sophia asked, folding her arms across her chest as she stepped into the banquet hall. “There’s work to be done, and I don’t have time to babysit you lot.”
“Sorry, Lady Sophia,” some murmured.
I narrowed my eyes at her.
“Who did you invite to this party?” I asked. “And why didn’t you update the staff and let them know there would be more attending?”
The room fell silent, and Sophia’s eyes turned into slits as she glared at me.
“Pardon me, Cecilia. But I don’t need to inform you or anyone else of anything. This is my rehearsal dinner, and 1 will invite whoever the fuck I want,” she said, her top lip curling in disgust. “And if you have a problem with that … then you can just drop dead.”
There were minor gasps in the room, but overall, most kept their heads down, refusing to take part in it.
A spark of anger surged through me.
“Perhaps we aren’t the ones who needed to take eloquent lessons,” I told her, my own eyes narrowing.
Sophia’s cheeks turned pink as she pressed her lips together.
“And yet, I’m the one marrying the King,” she said through her teeth.
With that, she brushed past me and started to bark orders to someone else.

I clenched my fists, anger bubbling inside of me until it got to the point that I was about to explode. My wolf was stirring uneasily inside of me, and it was something I wasn’t used to.
A hand on my shoulder was enough to push me over the edge, and suddenly, I completely lost control of Lora. A growl escaped me, and I whipped around, canines elongated, and my hands turned into the claws of my wolf.
Cora stumbled back, shocked. Her eyes were wide and her hands up in defense.
“I’m sorry… I was seeing if you were okay,” she såld, panic clear on her face.
Jasmine and Claira rushed to her side.
“Easy, girl,” Jasmine said, holding her hand up as well. “We are not going to hurt you.”
I had to fight to reel my wolf back in. It took several deep breaths before she finally settled at the furthest point of my mind, and once I got control back, I could see the tears in Cora’s eyes.
It nearly broke me.
