Chapter 234
Leopold’s POV
“Sire, we need to have a word,” Landon said as he walked into my study.
I leaned back in my seat, staring up at him. I had been trying to concentrate on these new contracts, but I couldn’t. bring myself to do so. The look on Cecilia’s face at dinner last night was engraved in my head. Not to mention the look on her face when I saw her afterward.
She truly wanted nothing to do with me, and I’m not sure why that bothered me more than anything. She wasn’t my mate… I shouldn’t care as much as I do. And yet, I couldn’t get her out of my head.
I shook the thought from my brain, or at least, I tried to.
“What is it?” I asked, sounding as drained as I felt.
“I’ve done what you asked and started to investigate Sophia… I have our top warriors following her without being seen. I worry that she might not be who she claims to be,” Landon said, catching my attention.
“What did you find out?”
“The way she’s treating the concubines and slaves… she’s acting as if she is their queen,” Landon said. “I’m not sure who gave her such authority. I told her she can plan the dinner rehearsal so she can make it as magical as she’d like. But I never authorized her to take charge in the way that she is.”
Anger surged through me as I clenched my fists, but I masked it.
“Anything else?” I asked, my eyes turning cold.
“As of right now… no,” he said, shaking his head. “I sent some warriors to Alpha Williams pack, though, to investigate further. Hopefully I will have more answers for you tomorrow.”
I nodded as I stood, needing to clear my head.
“Thank you,” I said to him as I walked out of my study; he followed after me.
“What is it you’re going to do, sire?” Landon asked from behind me.
“I’m going to check on the rehearsal dinner setup,” I told him.
I went towards the banquet hall, my steps controlled. The closer I got to the hall, the angrier I seemed to be getting. I caught a scent that made my stomach practically roll.
“King Leopold!” Sophia said, rushing towards me, tears in her eyes.
I paused my movements and turned to her. She grabbed onto my arms, and I noticed her trembling.
“She’s being so awful to me,” Sophia cried. “I was only trying to make our rehearsal dinner incredible, and she was being so rude.”
“Who are you speaking of?” I asked, already having a feeling, but needing her to confirm it.
“Cecilia,” she said, sniffling as she wiped her cheeks with the backs of her hands. “I wasn’t doing anything
wrong. The other girls can vouch for me. I was only trying to make the evening perfect, and she was acting cruelly. Telling me that I don’t deserve to be the queen and undermining my every wish.”
I pressed my lips together.

“She even said the flowers I chose were awful,” Sophia cried.
Where is she?” I asked, keeping my expression neutral.
“Still in the banquet hall,” she said, sniffling.
Without a word, I turned and headed towards the hall. I could feel Sophia trying to keep pace behind me. The scent only grew stronger, and I had to fight to keep myself under control. But the black spots in front of my eyes were all too familiar.
My wolf was about to take charge, and there’s no telling what’ll happen if he does that. I paused outside the hall for a beat longer, a part of me hoping that Cecilia was there to calm my wolf, possibly.
“Your Majesty?” Sophia started to ask, but I opened the door before she could get another word out of her mouth.
I paused when I saw the table set up; there were a bunch of concubines seated at the table, all looking a bit / ghostly. Then there were a couple of slaves standing in the corner, like they were waiting for orders, each of their
heads down.
I scowled at the sight; none of them should be here doing this. This isn’t what they were meant to be doing. Then, my eyes saw the flicker of red, and something inside of me snapped. I felt the darkness creeping back in, and I clutched the doorknob so hard I thought I was going to break it.
“Who authorized those flowers?” I asked, my tone coming out as a low growl.
“The irises?” Sophia asked with a frown. “I did… they are my favorite flowers-”
