Chapter 264

Cecilia’s POV

“My dress is dirty,” I commented as we made it back to my room. I frowned at the silky fabrics, ripped by the oak tree and marked by dirt.

Warren looked down at me, a frown marring his lips.

“I can get you a new one,” he told me as I opened the door to my room, stepping inside.

He followed me without an invitation.

“No, it’s okay,” I told him, turning to face him. “It may look odd if you are buying me dresses.”

He lifted his shoulder as if it was no big deal.

“You’re Leopold’s concubine. It wouldn’t be weird in the eyes of the palace.”

I found it interesting that he considers himself a separate entity from Leopold. He had said the same thing back in the forest as well when he suggested I had a relationship with only him while Leopold had a relationship with Sophia.

At the time, I wanted to laugh but given the circumstances and the emotional state of both of us, I didn’t. But now, I couldn’t help the light chuckle that escaped my lips.

“I… said something funny?” Warren asked, his brows pinched together, though I could see the humor and lightness behind his eyes, a stark contrast to how he was moments ago.

His boyish, confused expression was almost too cute; it made my chest tighten with admiration as I stepped closer to him.

“You are a rare find,” I tell him, reaching up to run my fingers through his hair again, something I’ve noticed he enjoyed. “I hope you never change when I’m gone.”

The playfulness left his expression almost immediately and he reached up to grab my wrist before I could pull

away.

“Don’t like you speaking that way,” he murmured, shaking his head.

I opened my mouth to tell him that it was something we needed to talk about and be clear about, but the words died in my throat when I saw the raw pain, mixed with a bit of lust in his gaze.

At that moment, I made up my mind.

“Then, how about we don’t speak at all?” I suggested, raising my brows.

His gaze softened as he looked into my eyes, and the pain that was in there only a moment ago was completely taken over by a hunger that sent chills down my spine.

Without a moment of hesitation, Warren closed the distance between us, his lips finding mine in a searing kiss that took my breath away and made my toes curl. Everything was wiped out of my mind for a long while; the only thing I could think about was how he felt against me. He was still shirtless, his abs on full display, and when my fingers traced the ridges of his muscles, I felt them tense under my touch.

The electricity that coursed between us was almost too much to handle. Lora was silent, but she was there on the edge, watching and panting with every stroke of his tongue and tightening of his grip.

He pulled flush against him so there was no space between us. The exposed parts of my skin rubbed against him, feeling the heat radiating off him and coursing into me like it belonged to me alone.

I thought about nothing other than the feel of him; not the guests who were waiting for him downstairs, or the Sophia… not my father.
