The Alpha King's Mind Reading Maid (Cecilia) novel Chapter 267

Chapter 267

Lippold’s POV-

Idiot.

I was a fucking idiot.

Or rather, my wolf was an idiot.

When I woke up naked in Cecilia’s bed this morning, with Cecilia also naked and curled up in my arms, there was no mistaking what had happened last night. And the fact that my heart started to race a little bit more and the fact that I held her a bit tighter than necessary showed that my wolf wasn’t the only one who was an idiot.

I was an idiot too, and I needed to get out of there before I did something stupid… Like kissing her or confessing my love to her.

Did I love her?

I had to force that thought out of my head immediately. Especially when Landon stepped into my study; he looked tired and a bit worn. When he looked at me, I could see that he knew exactly what had happened last night.

“I did what you asked, Sire,” he said, dipping his head slightly. “I gave her the box.”

I swallowed the lump in my throat and stared down at my desk, waiting for the lecture he was bound to give.

“Did she say anything?” I found myself asking, my voice was rough with barely suppressed emotions.

“No,” he said, though I knew there was more he wanted to say. After a moment of awkward silence, he finally let out a breath. “Can I ask why Cecilia smelled heavily like you, and sex?”

His question was bold, and it made me freeze.

I didn’t think he would be so forward about it, but I knew he was curious and I couldn’t lie my way out of this one. Sending Landon to Cecilia’s room the night after having sex with her was a risk I was willing to take, and now I had to own up to it.

“My wolf has a fucked-up sense of humor,” I muttered, not daring to look up at him, though he knew there was way more to it.

Unlike my wolf and me… Landon wasn’t an idiot.

“Your wolf?” Landon asked, his brows knitting together. “Shouldn’t your wolf want to be with Sophia and not Cecilia? Sophia is your mate, is she not?”

I didn’t reply because, truth be told, I had no idea.

I just knew that something didn’t feel right about Sophia. She claimed to be my mate… the one I had marked in the gardens, but I felt nothing when I looked at her. It wasn’t the way a mate bond should feel, and I certainly didn’t feel the same way about her as I felt about Cecilia.

Whatever I might feel for Cecilia.

My chest felt tight with the memory of her passing out during the ceremony. It was moments away from when Sophia was about to kiss me. I was foolish to think that it might have something to do with that… but there was still a small part of me that hoped maybe my feelings were reciprocated… even if it’s just a little.

I cursed myself, trying to shake that thought out of my head.

Why would it even matter?

not like I could do anything about it. Forcing Cecilia to stay here while I married Sophia was cruel, even for me.

“Please, don’t tell anyone about this,” I murmured, my voice coming out softer than intended, a hint of vulnerability I don’t often show. “No one can know what happened last night.”

“What are you going to do?” Landon asked, his eyes narrowed. “I’ve known you your whole life, Sire You’re not the kind to string both these women along.”

I pressed my lips together; I had no intention of stringing anyone along, especially not Cecilia. Asking her to stay and be my concubine, despite my marriage… it was wrong.

Allowing my wolf to take control, even if I had no control of it myself, and bed Cecilia… was wrong.

The only right thing I’ve done right lately was giving her that note and setting her free.

“It’s already been dealt with.”
