Chapter 288
Jasmine waved off my apology.
“You don’t need to apologize. You passed out. It was scary. We are just glad you’re okay,” she said with a soft smile.
“Oh, Cecilia. We heard the King no longer cares for you,” a concubine said as she walked towards me, her eyes were turned into slits, and my brows furrowed.
“What are you going on about, Hazel?” Jasmine asked, rolling her eyes.
“One of my maids overheard the King yelling at little miss perfect, Cecilia. It seems he no longer finds her all that desirable,” Hazel said, the corner of her lips lifting.
A couple of other girls stood behind her, both with their arms folded across their chests as well.
“What did you do to piss him off?”
“I’m not sure what you’re talking about,” I said, not wanting to give them any time of day. I wasn’t in the mood for this right now.
“Perhaps he realized she’s not all that special after all,” one of the girls snickered.
Hazel let out a laugh.
“Or perhaps he finally got what he wanted out of you. Did you spread your legs for the King, Cecilia? Is that why he no longer fancies you?”
My cheeks burned, but I wasn’t going to give them the satisfaction of a response.
“I’m just glad the King finally realized how worthless you are,” Hazel said, rolling her eyes. “If it weren’t for you, Vivien would still be alive, and Elora would still be here.”
“How do you figure that?” Jasmine asked, raising her brows. “You have no idea what you are talking about.”
“I know enough,” Hazel said, moving her long curly hair behind her shoulders. “Now that the King has turned his back on Cecilia…. We no longer have to be nice to her.”
“You girls are a bunch of fakes; have you lost your minds? If the King-”
“The King isn’t going to do shit. According to the slaves… he can’t stand her anymore. He only has eyes for his mate now, and Cecilia will be thrown to the curb after the wedding,” Hazel said, narrowing her eyes at Jasmine.” Which means… she’s fair game again. I would watch your back.”
Hazel then turned on her heel and headed back towards the other side of the tearoom, her friends following after her.
I stared after them, confused about what had just happened.
Before any of us could say anything or comprehend Hazel’s words, a maid came towards us with a platter of tea.
“Good morning,” she said, bowing her head in respect as she poured tea into our cups. “I have a special blend for you this morning, Cecilia. I hope you enjoy it. I was told it was your favorite.”
I furrowed my brows; I wasn’t sure who knew my favorite blend of tea. When she poured it into my cup, I could smell the familiar herbs and saw how dark the elixir was. It smelled delicious.

“Thanks,” I said to her.

She nodded hier head before pouring tea into the other cups as well. After a moment, she was done and left.
Just then, the door burst open and Caira rushed in. She looked like she had just crawled out of bed; her hair was a complete mess.
“Sorry, I’m late. I overslept,” Claira breathed as she approached us. “Did I miss anything?”
Jasmine laughed, and Cora shook her head in disbelief. I couldn’t help but smile as well.
Claira sat on the other side of me, attempting to catch her breath. Her eyes shifted to my cup of tea.
“I already missed the tea run?” She asked, pouting.
“I’m sure the slave will come back,” I assured her. “Or maybe we can find her?”
“Can I have a sip of yours?” Claira asked. “I need the energy. I’m exhausted.”
“And what were you doing all night that made you exhausted?” Jasmine asked, wiggling her brows, causing Claira’s cheeks to burn hot.
“Nothing,” Claira said a little too quickly.
“Mhm,” Jasmine hummed, but I could tell she was trying not to laugh.
