cilia’s POV

“The wolfsbane in your system had damaged both the fetus and your wolf,” Mariah said, a frown marring her lips. “They are both still alive, but they are hanging on by a thread. The wolfbane was laced with something called Moonshade. It’s poisonous to your wolf and could also hurt the baby. The only thing that’ll help you is the blood- of your fated mate.”

My fated mate.

My heart ached at the thought of my mate; I wasn’t sure if I had a mate and if I did… was he looking for me?

Something stirred inside of me at the mention of my mate, but I ignored it, shoving the feeling down like I’ve been doing for most of the day.

“So, what am I supposed to do?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. “I don’t even know what my name is, let alone my mate.”

Mariah looked at Lucy.

“You should get in contact with your parents. Maybe they can find out-“.

“No!” Lucy said, jumping to her feet. “My parents would kill me if they knew I brought an outsider to our territory.”

“You’re going to have to tell them at some point,” Mariah said, folding her arms across her chest.

“Yeah, I figured I would break the news to them when I saw them in a few days. I was hoping she’d get her memories back by then and we can figure out if she’s dangerous or not.”

Mariah rolled her eyes.

“The more we delay this, the more dangerous it will become.”

“Where did your parents go?” I asked, looking between the two of them.

“The Alpha King in the werewolf territory is having a wedding,” Lucy answered with a shrug. “We were all kind of surprised that my parents were invited, but it’s a good thing. My father has been wanting a peace treaty for a long time.”

“A peace treaty?”

Lucy nodded.

“Between the Lycans and the werewolves,” she explained.

“What’s the difference?”

“Lycans are the most powerful type of wolves in the world. Most think we are also incredibly dangerous, which is true if we are provoked. But honestly, we only want peace. At least now we do; my great-grandfather wanted war. Apparently, something happened between him and the former Alpha King, and the feud went on for generations. But now with all those former leaders gone and the next generation in charge, my father has been wanting to speak with the new Alpha King and come up with some peace treaties. He’s using this wedding as a way in.”

Something stirred again inside of me, and I pressed my hand to my chest, feeling my unsteady heartbeat.

“Do you suppose I could be a Lycan as well?”

She studied me for a moment.

‘s hard to tell with all the poison in your system. But I know all the Lycans in our territory, and I’ve never seen you before,” she commented with a frown. “Then again, when I first found you, there was something oddly familiar about you that I couldn’t figure out. So… maybe?”

“I brewed some herbal tea,” Mariah said, offering me the mug. “It’ll help calm you. I know this is a lot of information and you’re worried. But we are going to do everything we can to help you.”

“You’re both so kind,” I said, tears filling my eyes as I took the mug. Despite my inner turmoil, I was grateful to have met these people.

“We aren’t as bad as most think,” Mariah said with a wink before she turned and walked towards her desk on the

other side of the room.

At that point, Lucy froze, her eyes glazing over. It only lasted a moment, though, because soon she blinked and looked at me.

“I’ll be right back. Conrad is outside, and he wants to talk to me,” she said, rolling her eyes as she started towards the doorway.

“Who’s Conrad?”

“My father’s Beta,” she answered from over her shoulder.

She left the room a second later, but she left the door open a crack. Voices carried through from the hallway, and I

could hear an older man.
