The Alpha King's Mind Reading Maid (Cecilia) novel Chapter 93

Chapter 93

Cecilia’s POV

His lips were on mine before I could even process what was happening. It was all-consuming and soft, and everything I craved in one motion. The way his mouth moved against mine, as if they were made for my lips.

His teeth grazed my bottom lip, sucking it into his mouth, and I thought I was a goner for sure. The voices of the guards had come and gone fairly quickly, but neither of us had noticed. We were too lost in our own little bubble to really notice anything else going on around us.

I was confused about what was happening between us; Warren was my friend, and though I knew with certainty that I had developed feelings for the man pressing me against a tree right now, I also knew that this couldn’t be our reality. He was going to find his mate, and then I would be left alone to pick up the pieces of my broken heart.

But in this moment, as he kissed me like I was something special to hold onto, didn’t care. His hands tightened around my waist, pulling me flush against him, and the way his tongue slid across my bottom lip, asking for permission to enter my mouth, made me gasp. Just as I was about to part my lips and invite him inside, he pulled back.

His breathing was heavy, and his eyes were dark as he stared down at me. His lips were swollen, and it took everything I had not to touch them with my fingertip. I’m sure I was red in the face; I was breathless as well, both our chests heaving as we fought to catch our breath.

He stepped back, almost like I had burned him, and the regret that I saw in his eyes was enough to destroy me in an instant. The little bubble we found ourselves in popped, and I suddenly felt sick to my stomach.

He didn’t say anything; he didn’t have to.

I knew that this was only a moment of weakness… and that nothing could come from it.

I didn’t want him to see me cry; I needed to get back to the palace and into bed so I could pretend that this didn’t happen.

“I should go,” I tell him, my voice coming out choked.

“Cecilia…” he tried to say, but I didn’t listen.

I was already running down the path we took to get here; the palace was now in view.

I didn’t need to hear him tell me that he’s made a mistake. I already knew,

Tears finally sprang from my eyes and down my cheeks. I wiped them away as I ran, but it still made it difficult to see.

Which was exactly why I ran smack into a broad chest and nearly fell to the ground in the process. A pair of hands grasped my shoulders to steady me. When I looked up at the person I ran into, I thought it was Leopold… or Warren… at first.

I took a step back, trying to clear my vision and see better. Only then did I realize it wasn’t them.

It was Caden.

I hadn’t seen him since that dinner a few weeks ago.

His right brow lifted as he stared down at me, a perplexed expression.

“Hello again, Cecilia,” he said, his voice low and even. “Is everything okay?”

“It’s nothing to worry about,” I tell him. “Sorry. I’ll watch where I’m going next time.”

I didn’t wait for him to respond. I took off, back to the palace in hopes of erasing that kiss from my mind.
