The Alpha King's Mind Reading Maid (Cecilia) novel Chapter 96

Chapter 96

“I’m just observant,” I told her with a shrug. “It wasn’t anything special.”

“Speak for yourself,” Claira said, shaking her head. “Jas is right, that was incredible. You truly showed her up and put Vivian in her place. It was amazing to watch.”

“Truly,” Cora agreed.

“Thanks, but I’m afraid I made her even angrier with me, murmured. “I have no doubt there will be retaliation.”

“And we have no doubt that you can handle it,” Jasmine said. “You’ve got this, and you have us as backup now. Believe it or not, we are friends.”

“Yeah, we kind of like… adopted you,” Claira teased with a wink.

I smiled at them; friends… it was nice having genuine friends and not a fake friend like Sophie.

“Thanks, I consider you girls friends as well,” I tell them.

“Good,” Claira said, nudging my shoulder. “I’m heading back… I need a nap. I’m exhausted.

“Same,” Jasmine said, following her towards the door. “It’s been a long day. I thought the lessons would never end.”

The two of them continued to chat as they left the ballroom, leaving me alone with Cora. She was watching me curiously for a moment, a worried look on her face.

“Hey, is everything okay?” She asked. “I mean, last I saw you… You were crying.”

I ran into Cora right after my kiss with Warren last night. I ran past her, not wanting to talk about it at the time, and I still don’t really want to talk about it now. I wondered if she would judge me if I told her about the kiss. I just became friends with these girls, and I didn’t want to ruin it now.

“I’m fine,” I tell her, with a reassuring smile, though I was certain it didn’t reach my eyes.

“You didn’t seem fine last night,” she tells me, raising her brows. “And you still don’t seem totally fine right now. You know you can talk to me, right? I won’t judge you.”

I wanted to believe that, but how could I when all I knew was judgments? Besides, I was judging myself, so it was hard to believe that she wouldn’t judge me too.

“My step-mother tried to have me killed,” I decided to tell her. “When I snuck home. She wanted me sent to the water dungeon and brutally beaten. If the King hadn’t been there… I wouldn’t be here right now. I guess the weight of it got to me last night when I realized I don’t really have a home to go back to after the ceremony.”

I decided to tell her a partial truth because the truth of the matter was… I truly didn’t have a home anymore. After the ceremony, I wasn’t sure what was going to happen to me, and I would be lying if I said I wasn’t a little scared.

“Oh, Goddess, Cecilia,” Cora said, putting a hand to her chest. “I am so sorry you are going through that. But you have nothing to worry about; if you can’t return to your pack, then you can always come to one of ours. We will welcome you in with open arms.”

She reached out to hug me, and I accepted it, feeling a little lighter in that element. It was nice having her as a friend, and I felt guilty that I wasn’t telling her about the kiss, but I wasn’t sure I could even speak those words out loud.

“And don’t let Vivian get to you…” She’s just miserable because she’s not as educated as she claims,” Cora said with a smirk as she pulled back. “You kicked ass today. It was impressive. You’d bring a lot to any pack that you might join.”

I let out a breath.

“Thank you,” I tell her.

“I’m going to head back as well. I’m exhausted,” she said, giving me a tired smile. “But I’ll see you later. Maybe we can have tea this evening?”

I nodded.
