The Bride He Took for Granted

Chapter 83

He turned off the security footage and tossed the tablet to Daniel without a word.

Then he went back into the bathroom, showered again, dried his hair, and changed into a fresh suit and tie.

Every inch of the suit fit the lines of his body perfectly. He looked effortlessly striking.

After admiring him for a few seconds, Daniel put on a professional expression and began briefing Harold on his major appointments for the next three days.

The final item was the PlayBean Studio thank-you banquet scheduled for the day after tomorrow.

Daniel knew better than anyone that Harold would never attend the kind of tedious social event he disliked.

At the last high-end cocktail party, Harold had only shown up because Laurel had practically pleaded with him and scolded him for being an ungrateful grandson.

This time, Laurel had not pressured him, so Harold definitely would not go.

Daniel mentioned it only as a formality and quickly moved dŘ:23

Just as he expected, Harold did not even look up as he fastened his watch.

He gave Daniel two simple words.

“Decline it.”

“Of course, sir.”

After returning to her office, Elise kept thinking about how she could get an invitation.

She decided to buy the copyright to Crossing Fate. Once she owned it, she wanted to simplify the game’s opening sequence.

However, she couldn’t code or modify the program herself, so she needed a skilled developer.

Many full-time developers couldn’t take on outside projects without their employer’s approval.

Besides, revising Crossing Fate would require an entire team, not just a single programmer.

She needed people with proven technical skills and experience to make sure the project succeeded on the first attempt.

were among the best in the field. It would be the perfect opportunity to find suitable candidates.

With that in mind, Elise opened her contacts and searched for

someone who could help her get an invitation.

Just then, her phone rang.

It was the jewelry rental company.

Elise held the phone to her ear and answered.

A sweet, cheerful woman’s voice came through.

“Hello, Ms. White. We’re pleased to inform you that your

complete jewelry set has been fully rented out.”

Elise asked,

“By the same celebrity agency we worked with before?”

“Yes, Ms. White.”

Elise’s eyes lit up.

She immediately thought of an actress she had worked with who was the celebrity spokesperson for one of PlayBean Studio’s

games.

payments. Would you like to pick it up at the store, or should we arrange delivery?”

“I’ll come pick it up,” Elise said immediately.

Since Sharon would check her financial records, Elise always insisted on cash payments for her jewelry rentals.

Chloe had opened a separate account specifically for Elise. She never asked questions or checked the balance.

She only knew that Elise had saved a little money, but she had no idea how much was actually in the account.

So when Elise called and said she wanted to buy her a gown and take her to the banquet, Chloe almost thought Elise had suddenly become rich overnight.

Amusement colored Elise’s voice.

“Not quite. I’m just taking you out to relax. Think of it as a little comfort for everything your father put you through.”

As for Edward putting all the company’s profits into overseas accounts for Chloe’s twin brother, his excuse was that opening three separate accounts for three children had been too much trouble. Besides, Chloe had not been there when the accounts were created.

After Jennifer fought for her, Edward gave Chloe one-third of the funds.

However, just like her twin brother’s share, the money was placed in a trust and could not be withdrawn for three years.

Chloe’s plan to buy Elise a car had fallen through once again…

Elise felt a warmth spread through her chest.

“Not having a car does have its advantages. Taxis and rideshares are actually pretty convenient. I just wave, and one shows up. It’s quick and easy.”

“Keep telling yourself that!”

Elise laughed.

“Come to TBD Mall now. I’ll wait for you at the gelato shop on the first floor.”
