The Bride He Took For Granted novel Chapter 86

Chapter 86

Elise pointed at Harold’s forehead. “I’m sorry. I really didn’t

mean to.”

Seeing how flustered she looked, Harold suddenly felt the urge to tease her.

“Who can testify for you?” he asked.

Elise hesitated. “Besides you and me, Blitz was the only one

there.”

Though technically, Blitz was the reason it happened.

“Blitz? Can he testify for you?” Harold asked, keeping a straight

face.

Elise cautiously replied, “Can’t he?”

“I’ve heard of police dogs,” Harold said. “But I’ve never heard of a dog serving as a witness.”

Elise froze for a moment and pressed her lips together, trying to stay composed.

But when she saw Harold’s completely serious expression, she couldn’t hold it in anymore. She burst out laughing.

gave him away. Soon, a low laugh escaped him as well.

At exactly six, the streetlights at the neighborhood entrance flickered on, casting a warm glow over Elise as she stood beside the Maybach.

Her eyes curved slightly with laughter, and the faint smile at the corners of her lips gave her a playful, mischievous charm.

Her white floral tulle gown matched her braided princess hairstyle perfectly, both glowing softly beneath the lights.

The breeze brushed past her, stirring the hem of her dress and the ends of her hair.

Harold suddenly held his breath.

It was as if a princess had stepped right out of a storybook…

His heart gave a sudden, heavy beat. When he looked away, his gaze landed on the diamond necklace around Elise’s neck.

Perhaps her smile had been too dazzling. He hadn’t even noticed the diamonds catching the light.

“Are you going to PlayBean’s banquet?” Harold asked.

“Yes,” Elise replied.

Elise watched him leave, wondering whether Chloe’s car had arrived yet.i

Then the Maybach, which had just driven off, slowly backed up again.

Elise had come to the banquet with a purpose, so she arrived an hour early.

Holding an invitation with only her name on it, she brought Chloe into the main hall.

After checking in, Chloe complained that she was hungry and went off to find something to eat and drink.

Elise spotted several esports stars she recognized and went over to greet them. They chatted about recent tournaments,

As more guests arrived, more people joined the conversation. Before long, everyone naturally exchanged contact information.

When Landon entered the main hall with Joan and Lynn, he ran

into Jason.

Joan now worked for Novatech Global, while Jason was the vice president. It was only proper for her to greet him.

“Hello, Mr. Clark. I’m Joan Reed, the new assistant.”

In front of everyone, Jason kept things professional for Landon’s sake and didn’t make Joan uncomfortable.

He simply smiled politely.

“Welcome to Novatech. Since you’re here, just follow the company rules and focus on your work.”

His tone was perfectly pleasant.

But when his eyes briefly landed on Joan’s face, the faint amusement in them did not go unnoticed.

Joan noticed it too, but she could do nothing about it.

She had fought hard for the chance to attend this banquet. She couldn’t exactly turn around and leave before it had even

started.

Landon’s attention, however, was fixed on Elise inside the hall.

Why is she here? Who brought her?

“Mr. Carter! Welcome, welcome.”

One of the event organizers personally came over to greet

handon.

Seeing Jason, he added, “Mr. Clark, you’re here too.”

Jason nodded, exchanged a polite handshake with the organizer, and then headed into the hall to find Elise.

Landon wanted to follow, but he couldn’t get away just yet.

At an event like this, the Carter family name made him a natural target for people eager to curry favor.

“Mr. Carter, and this is…?” the organizer asked, glancing at

Joan.

Landon looked at her.

“My new assistant, Joan Reed. I brought her along to gain some

experience.”

Joan smiled politely, nodded, and extended her hand,

“Nice to meet you.”

The organizer studied Landon’s expression and sensed that there was something unusual about their relationship.
