The Bride He Took for Granted

Chapter 87

Several men who had just exchanged pleasantries with Landon made their way to the lounge and politely invited one another to

sit.

They completely failed to notice the two women sitting behind them and slightly to the left.

“The woman next to Mr. Carter looks familiar. Haven’t we seen

her somewhere before?”

“You’re getting old. She used to work as a server at a nightclub. A guy tried to harass her once, and she almost got into a fight with him. Landon stepped in and took her away…”

The man nodded, as if he had finally remembered.

“Oh, her.”

“With makeup on tonight, she actually looks pretty.”

“She might look good on her own, but how does she compare to Ms. White?”

“Not even close.”

“Exactly. She’s better in every way.”

seriously marry someone like that?”

Joan heard every word.

Her fists tightened as her nails dug into her palms.

One day, I’ll make every one of you regret looking down on me.

“Weston, why are you staring at Ms. White? Interested in her?”

“What are you talking about? She’s with Landon. I just have a feeling the diamonds she’s wearing might not be real.”

Joan stopped when she heard that.

Lynn had clearly heard it too. She exchanged a glance with Joan.

“You must be mistaken. The White family may have lost some of their influence, but they’re still wealthy. They would never let her wear fake jewelry.”

Weston began to question his own judgment.

Wanting to confirm his suspicion, he stood up and moved closer to Elise for a better look.

A moment later, he returned with absolute certainty.

“They’re definitely fake. I’d bet my name on it.”

No one questioned him after that.

The Davis family had been in the jewelry business for generations.

Watching Weston bask in the attention and praise around him, Joan’s eyes flickered.

An idea began to form in her mind.

“Come with me,” she whispered to Lynn.

Elise’s phone buzzed twice.

She pulled it out of her clutch and saw a message.

[I’m in the lounge.]

“I’m going to see a friend,” Elise told Chloe and Jason. “I’ll be back soon.”

Ten minutes later, Elise stepped out of the lounge and received another message from Chloe.

[I’m going backstage to steal the lead singer’s heart. Don’t wait

up.]

Elise smiled helplessly.

She slipped her phone back into her clutch when she suddenly felt a sharp chill against her chest.

The unexpected cold made her gasp.

Someone had spilled an entire glass of ice-cold red wine down the front of her dress.

Elise immediately removed her necklace and held it tightly in

her hand.

Lynn quickly lowered her head.

“I’m sorry, Ms. White. I didn’t see you. I’m so sorry.”

The red wine ran down Elise’s neck and soaked into the front of

her white tulle dress.

With the stain in such an awkward place, she couldn’t simply wipe it away in front of everyone.

Noticing people beginning to look over, Elise gave Lynn a cold glance and turned toward the lounge to find something to change into.

But Lynn stepped in front of her, looking flustered as she reached out to help wipe away the wine.

That was exactly what Lynn had intended.

Joan had instructed her to pretend to clean the stain, then use the opportunity to pull Elise’s neckline lower.

Once Elise’s fake jewelry was exposed, they could humiliate her in front of everyone and make Landon lose face.

It was a carefully calculated plan.

Elise saw right through Lynn’s act.

She pushed Lynn’s hand away before it could reach her neckline.

Then she grabbed the wineglass from Lynn’s hand and poured the remaining wine straight over her face.

Lynn let out a cry.

“Ah! My dress!”

The commotion immediately drew Landon, Joan, and Jason

over.

The guests nearby, who had been busy networking, also turned their attention toward them.

The large red stain across Elise’s chest was impossible to miss.
