The CEO’s Unspoken Love (Eleanor and Derek) novel Chapter 19

Chapter 19

Due to our height difference, I had to bend down slightly to kiss her. This angle allowed me complete control over the rhythm and

depth of our kiss, or so I told myself. The truth was, I felt anything but in control.

My hands began to roam over her waist and back, feeling her warm skin through the silky fabric. My touch became bolder, venturing beneath her skirt, caressing her slender thighs. To my surprise, Eleanor didn’t reject my touch. The realization both thrilled and

unsettled me.

I told myself this was merely a natural physiological response between us, not some deeper emotional connection. This explanation

allowed me to accept my desire for her without having to face more complicated feelings.

Pulling back slightly, I rested my forehead against Eleanor’s, giving us both space to breathe. My heart was racing in a way that couldn’t be explained by mere physical exertion. I needed to regain my equilibrium, to remind myself that this was just an

experiment.

Unexpectedly, perhaps influenced by the alcohol, Eleanor opened those misty eyes and rose on her tiptoes to kiss me again, this time with a more passionate, deep kiss. Her initiative shattered what remained of my analytical detachment. Something primal and possessive surged through me, something I couldn’t quantify or rationalize away.

I felt an intense physical reaction, pressing my body tightly against Eleanor, letting her clearly feel my desire. Eleanor didn’t shrink away but instead matched my body’s rhythm, our breathing and heartbeats seemingly becoming one. For a moment, I forgot about my experiment, forgot about proving anything to myself. I was simply a man kissing the woman who was still, technically, my wife.

Suddenly, urgent knocking interrupted our intimacy. Someone outside complained loudly: “The second-floor bathroom door is broken! Let’s go to the first floor!” Soon, silence returned outside.

This brief interruption was like a bucket of cold water, not just for Eleanor but for me as well. I felt a momentary sense of relief at the interruption-things had been veering dangerously out of my control, into territory I wasn’t prepared to explore.

Eleanor’s eyes widened in horror as she seemed to realize what she had just done. She shoved me away with surprising strength, and

a resounding slap landed on my face.

“You bastard! Her voice was filled with anger and shame.

I touched my stinging cheek, but forced a playful smile to curl the corner of my mouth. The mask of arrogance was easy to slip back on, a comfortable defense. “I was just teaching you how to complete that dare. Clearly, you’re a quick learner, surpassing even the

teacher. Keep up the good work next time.”

My words were deliberately provocative, designed to reestablish the emotional distance that had momentarily collapsed between us. I needed to retreat to safer ground, to convince myself that what had just happened was meaningless. Just physical. Just biology.

Eleanor cursed under her breath again, quickly straightening her disheveled clothes and hair before angrily pushing the door open

and leaving.

I leaned against the doorframe, watching her retreating figure with what I hoped appeared to be an amused expression. But beneath

that confident exterior, I felt a stirring of indescribable emotion-confusion, desire, and something deeper that I refused to name.

My experiment had failed. I’d set out to prove that I could kiss Eleanor without feeling anything beyond physical desire, that I could

clearly distinguish between lust and more complicated emotions. Instead, I’d only confused myself further. But I wasn’t ready to

admit that. Not yet. It was easier to believe that my racing heart and lingering thoughts were simply the result of an unexpectedly

passionate encounter, nothing more.

After all, I was Derek Wells. I didn’t do love, especially not with the woman I was about to divorce.
