Chapter 87
Derek entered immediately, his eyes sweeping over me in a single glance that seemed to take in every detail-my damp hair, the silk robe, tny bare legs. He locked the door behind him with a decisive click that sent a shiver of anticipation down my spine. Without a word, we both moved to the bed, lying down with our backs to each other, a careful foot of space between us. The silence stretched between us, charged with unspoken words and lingering anger.
I was acutely aware of his presence-the sound of his breathing, the subtle dip of the mattress under his weight, the faint scent of his cologne. My skin felt hypersensitive, as if the very air between us conducted electricity.
Suddenly, Derek turned over, the mattress shifting beneath me. I felt him prop himself up on one elbow, his gaze like a physical
touch on my back.
“Do you know what Grandmother said to me earlier?” he asked, his voice low and intimate in the quiet room.
“No,” I replied cautiously, not turning to face him. My heart began to beat faster.
“She said she wants us to have a baby.” His voice held a note of amusement. “She wants to hold her great-grandchild.”
I whipped around in shock, the silk robe sliding against my thigh as I moved. I found myself face to face with Derek, close enough
to see the flecks of darker blue in his eyes. “Nonsense.”
Derek moved closer, his finger lightly tracing my cheek, then trailing down to my jawline. His touch was feather-light but left fire in
its wake. “I think so too, he murmured, his gaze dropping to my lips. “But at least we could do something that makes us look like a
married couple.
My pulse quickened, heat spreading through my body. “What do you mean?” My voice emerged breathier than I intended.
He shifted me closer to him, one hand sliding to my waist, fingers splaying against the silk that was the only barrier between his
hand and my skin. His breath was warm against my neck as he leaned in. “Like this,” he murmured, his lips brushing against the
sensitive spot just below my ear.
I felt my body respond instantly, a rush of desire flooding through me that I was powerless to control. My back arched slightly, bringing me closer to him almost against my will. “Derek,” I whispered, trying to make it sound like a protest but hearing the desire
in my own voice. “I’m not interested in your games.”
“Yes, you are,” he whispered, his voice low and sure as his lips moved down my neck. His hand tightened on my waist, then slid up,
stopping just beneath my breast. “You just don’t like to admit it. I can feel it.”
His lips found the pulse point on my neck, and despite everything-all the hurt, all the anger, all the reasons this was a terrible idea -I couldn’t pull away. My hand moved to his chest, but instead of pushing him away, my fingers curled into the fabric of his shirt,
pulling him closer.
“You smell good, he murmured against my skin, his hand finally moving to cup my breast through the silk. I gasped at the contact,
my body betraying me completely.

Chapter 87
I closed my eyes, caught between desire and self-preservation, knowing that this would only complicate things further. We were supposed to be ending our marriage, not tangling ourselves deeper in its complicated web. Yet I was powerless to resist the pull that had always existed between us-this raw, undeniable chemistry that defied all logic and reason.
As his mouth found mine in a hungry kiss, I surrendered to the moment, knowing I would likely regret it come morning but unable to deny myself this one night of pretending we were what we had never truly been: a real husband and wife, driven by passion rather than obligation.
