The Cold Surgeon's Contract Bride novel Chapter 107

I absolutely did not expect Zoey to volunteer to stay by my bedside.

Meeting the young woman's gaze, I instantly noticed her red, puffy eyes. Paired with those dark, earnest pupils, she looked utterly pitiful and helpless.

It felt as though rejecting her right now would make me the villain.

I had no choice but to brace myself and say, "That's not necessary. I just need to sleep. Let's not trouble you."

"It's no trouble at all, Selena!" The girl seemed remarkably enthusiastic, her tone sincere. "My shift is over anyway, so just let me stay."

She was incredibly persistent, which only dragged my already terrible mood down further.

"I don't think that's necessary," Leon interjected smoothly. His gaze swept over Zoey and Zelda as he stated, "The nurses are here, and I'm on duty tonight. If Dr. Hayes needs anything, she can just call me."

Hearing that, both Zoey and I froze. Even the normally aloof Ferris knitted his brows.

The young woman looked at me, then at Leon, and curled her lips into a smile. "Oh my, look at me getting in the way. Alright then, we'll follow Dr. Lennox's arrangement."

Her voice was sickeningly sweet, and the smile plastered on her face strongly implied there was something illicit going on between Leon and me.

Normally, I would have defended myself, but right now, I simply didn't have the energy. I issued a blunt dismissal. "Thank you all for your concern, but I'm really tired now. I want to sleep."

"Let's let Selena get some rest then." The young woman looked tentatively at Ferris. "What do you think, Ferris?"

Ferris walked out of the room without a single change in expression.

Once I was finally alone, I let out a long, heavy exhale.

My exhaustion was very real, but lying in bed, I couldn't fall asleep. Thinking back to the confrontation with Zoey, Zelda, and Ferris, an awful, bitter feeling twisted in my gut.
