Take two days off.
Until the scandal blows over.
No wonder Ferris had suddenly brought up a full-body checkup. He was just trying to give me busywork so I'd vanish from the public eye.
"What about me? Should I take two days off too?"
Zoey voiced the very question I was burning to ask.
"No need," Ferris replied without hesitation. "The Department of Neurosurgery isn't afraid of trouble."
My nose burned. I dug my nails fiercely into my palms, terrified of making a single sound.
Looking at the IV tube taped to my hand, and remembering the careful way Ferris had held my IV pole just moments ago, I gritted my teeth and brutally yanked the needle out.
To everyone's shock, I showed up for the morning shift.
Seeing me with my clipboard, the head nurse rushed over, her face full of concern. "You fainted yesterday! Shouldn't you take a day off before coming back to work?"
"I'm fine. I'm tough," I joked, feigning ease. "Besides, if I take a day off, they'll dock my pay."
The head nurse shook her head helplessly. "Alright, but if you feel like you can't hold up, let me know. Do not push yourself."
I nodded lightly, then heard her drop some gossip. "Oh, by the way, that video from yesterday got taken down this morning. Did you see?"
I shook my head. Recalling the conversation between Ferris and Zoey, I was ninety percent sure he was the one behind it.
After all, it would protect his Little Mischief's reputation.
At that thought, I forced a stiff smile and told the head nurse, "Come on, let's go do rounds."
I was prepared to face the rumors, but sometimes, people's prejudice is far more terrifying than gossip.
Case in point: when checking on a Neurosurgery patient, her husband, who had somehow heard about my so-called exploits, vehemently refused to let me examine his wife, screaming for the hospital to switch doctors.
