The Cold Surgeon's Contract Bride novel Chapter 161

The world spun wildly before I collapsed onto the floor. When I forced my heavy eyelids open, a scalding liquid snaked down my brow, gathering into thick crimson drops on my eyelashes.

I was bleeding.

"Selena!"

An anxious voice cut through the chaos. A tall figure rushed into my blurred vision, scooping me up before frantically shoving open the operating room doors.

The stark white hem of a lab coat brushed past my eyes. The man’s long, powerful hands cradled my face. A drop of my blood fell onto his badge, making the gold lettering crystal clear: Ferris Sterling, Department of Neurosurgery.

The man carrying me into the OR was none other than Ferris.

We were so close I could feel his heat. The overhead surgical lights shattered into bright halos in my vision. Terence Thorne’s hysterical face flashed through my mind, and panic gripped me. "Did they subdue Terence?"

"You still have the energy to worry about that?" Ferris scolded, his voice tight against my ear. "With so many people outside the OR, did you really need to play the hero? Who do you think you are?"

Recalling how Terence had grabbed Ferris by the shoulders, a bitter taste flooded my mouth. "I was just doing what any medical professional should do."

"There were plenty of other doctors and security guards right there," Ferris snapped back, completely unforgiving. "You should be thanking your lucky stars he only shoved you. Did you even know he had a knife hidden in his pocket? Can’t you use your brain for once?"

Exhausted by his rapid-fire lecture, I forced my eyes open again. My gaze landed on him hurriedly tearing open a sterile surgical pack.

Just as I opened my mouth to argue, a refreshing coolness touched my forehead. Ferris had taken a pair of tweezers and gently pressed an alcohol swab to my skin.

I instinctively flinched backward, accidentally bumping the back of my head into the palm of his hand. Amidst the sharp scent of alcohol, I caught his faint, familiar cologne. My heart skipped a beat.
